Andy Robertson was close to a January transfer but has ultimately decided to stay at Liverpool as he prepares to make a decision on his future before departing for the World Cup with Scotland.
Andy Robertson has admitted he will decide where he will play before this summer’s World Cup as his spell at Liverpool draws to a close.
The Scottish player has been at Anfield for nine years and has been a mainstay at left-back for most of that time. He has won the Premier League and Champions League so far, but has seen his minutes reduced this year and has been forced to accept a lesser role.
Robertson’s contract expires in the summer and he was linked with a move to Tottenham in January. That switch did not materialize, but the left-back, who will represent his country in another major tournament, said he intended to make a call to his next club in the coming weeks.
The 32-year-old, who has played 372 games for the Reds, has no shortage of suitors and is likely keen to play regularly for the Reds, but there are currently no offers at Liverpool, with Milos Kerkes leading the way.
Robertson said: “Will I make a decision before the World Cup? Yeah, definitely it will happen. For me it was always in my mind that I would make a decision by the summer and I didn’t want it to bother me. I think that’s the important thing. I don’t think anyone wants that and everyone would be in the same position.”

“Whether it’s my contract expiring and signing a new contract or whatever I’m doing, I always want to get that resolved before I play in a big tournament. I’ve always worked towards that and been consistent with that. We’ve only got eight or nine weeks left, so from now until the end I’m going to sit down with my family and see what we want.”
Glasgow-born Robertson has been a Celtic fan since he was a boy and a move to Parkhead has been linked with his availability. Celtic’s reinforcements have long been criticized, but the addition of a proven winner would be a major coup for a team that could miss out on the title this season.
The Liverpool ace tried to deflect talk of a move, saying: “It’s not something I talk about[Celtic]too much. Of course I was at Celtic as a kid and I had a season ticket, so it’s no secret. But it’s not something I really want to be involved in.”
“The options that are on the table for me at the moment remain private and that’s how I’ve always been. People can talk, there’s been a lot of discussion about it, there’s been a lot of discussion about where I go next. I’ve looked at it, but I’m staying away from everything right now.”
