Rio Ferdinand took to social media ahead of Sunday’s enthusiastic Euro 2025 Final between England and Spain, questioning why one important BBC critic was absent
Rio Ferdinand revealed he was not impressed by the fact that Farah Williams was not part of the BBC coverage of the Euro 2025 final between England and Spain.
The 41-year-old Williams was a Lioness icon and was constant throughout the BBC tournament coverage. However, Ferdinand raised doubts about the decision as she wasn’t part of Sunday’s lineup for pre-game buildups.
The former Manchester United and the UK defender tweeted, “What about @fara_williams47, not @bbcsport coverage?”
Williams is England’s most capped player after representing her country in a phenomenal 172 times during an astounding playing career.
And since hanging her boots, she has enjoyed an incredible critic career, a regular on the BBC, covering tournaments this summer alongside ITV. Gabby Logan was attended by Steph Houghton, Ellen White and Nedum Onuoha in Sunday’s match.

Salina Wigman’s team had bid to maintain the European crown when they met Spain in the showpiece final on Sunday, when they won the previous tournament in 2022. The match was a recurring role in the 2023 World Cup final, when Spain won 1-0.
And Lioness officially claimed a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the world champion, with Chloe Kelly notching on the final spot kick.
“I can’t believe it, but I have a medal on my neck and a trophy,” Wigman said. “It was the most chaotic tournament on the pitch, and all the challenges we had on the pitch against our opponents.
“It was a mess from the first game. Losing the first game and becoming a European champion is incredible. Football is a mess.
“I can’t believe it. The word ‘team’ really explained who we are. We said we can win at any measure.
“I’m very proud of my team and staff. That’s incredible.”
