Alan Shearer took to Instagram on Friday to show off the severe cuts and bruises he suffered after falling off his bike. The Newcastle United legend took his story and shared a series of photos showing his arm and leg in poor condition, writing: “Yeah. Potholes on your bike aren’t good!!!”
The first photo revealed a series of scratches on Mr Shearer’s forearm and bicep as he reclined on a sofa and raised his arm to demonstrate the severity of his injuries. Meanwhile, a second photo showed the striker-turned-punitive with extensive scrapes on his knees and shins. It’s unclear exactly how the accident occurred, but photos clearly show that there was a severe impact.
It comes after the 55-year-old was named in England’s starting XI this week, which he will select for this summer’s World Cup.
Manager Thomas Tuchel has called up a massive 35-man squad for two friendlies during the March international break, with the Three Lions facing Uruguay on Friday night before facing Japan on Tuesday 31 March.
Speaking to Betfair about Tuchel’s selection, Shearer, who downplayed the opportunity to use Trent Alexander-Arnold, explained: “Thomas Tuchel is obviously going to make some adjustments with the players he brings in. I like the idea of what he’s done with the 35-man squad in terms of giving players a bit of a rest for one game and bringing the rest in for the next game.”
“It’s going to be hard to see where we’re at because there’s going to be a lot of players in both XIs that might not even be in the 26-man squad that he’s going to take to America, Mexico and Canada. But what it does do is give one or two guys a good opportunity.”

“I think he already has a big part of who he wants to get in his head, but there might just be one or two spots that he can push late.”
Shearer also revealed his starting XI for this summer’s North American competition, surprisingly leaving out the likes of Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.
His selections are: Jordan Pickford, Reece James, Mark Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Lewis Hall, Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson, Morgan Rodgers, Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane and Anthony Gordon.
Shearer spoke about the Three Lions’ chances of winning a trophy in the coming months, adding: “I believe England can win the World Cup.”
“If you look at our talent, you look at the players competing for places. If you look at the team, England have a really, really good chance to win.”
“But so is France, and so is Spain, along with other countries that consider themselves the same. France has a huge amount of talent, Spain has a tremendous amount of talent, and so does Portugal.”
“They’re all going to see what we’re seeing and obviously only one can win, but we go into it with a really decent chance here.”
