Spurs’ recent defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest leaves them just three points above the drop zone with seven games left in the season. The club’s pecking order is starting to look hopeless, with fears growing that Tottenham will be relegated for the first time since 1977.
It is expected that Tudor’s interim period will come to an early end, forcing Spurs to return to the managerial market to find a solution. According to the Telegraph, Roberto de Zerbi, who left Marseille earlier this year, is the first choice to win the Europa League.
De Zerbi was initially contacted during the search for Thomas Frank’s replacement, but the Italian has made it abundantly clear that he has no intention of taking over until the end of the season. If De Zerbi refuses to change his position, the same report claims that Dyche will be Spurs’ last resort.
Mr Dyche’s most recent job was at Nottingham Forest, when the former Burnley manager was in charge for just 114 days. He was sacked after failing to pull Forest out of the relegation battle, a decision now shared with Dyche’s future employers Spurs.
Tottenham are currently in the international break and their first weekend back will be spent playing FA Cup matches, so they have time before their next game. This means Spurs will be back in action on April 12th when they visit the North East for a tricky fixture against Sunderland.
However, if West Ham had beaten Wolves two days earlier, Spurs could have fallen into the relegation zone by the time the game started. After the game against Sunderland, Tottenham face Brighton in the capital before facing bottom-of-the-table Wolves at Molineux.
A final decision on Mr Tudor’s future is expected to be made by Monday, as the situation has become more sensitive following the death of his father. Dyche is expected to be offered only seven games left in the season.
