Tottenham Hotspur x EFL Championship: This match existed only in the minds of the most imaginative rival fans. Until now.
Spurs sit 17th in the Premier League table, one point above West Ham United in the drop zone, after a disastrous 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest before the international break.

With the club in decline and rumors swirling around interim manager Igor Tudor, the possibility of the R-word emerging is serious.

According to Opta, Spurs have a 26.49% chance of being eliminated. Anyone who watched the second half against Forest would be surprised that it wasn’t much higher.

TeamPlayedPoints Chance of relegation 14. Crystal Palace 30390.05%15. Leeds 31337.67%16. Nottingham Forest31328.49%17. Spurs 313026.49%18. West Ham 312957.42%19. Burnley312099.93%20. Wolf311799.95%

With Crystal Palace essentially safe and Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers doomed, the final relegation spot is one of four: Leeds, Forest, Spurs and West Ham.

Spurs are expected to finish with 38.44 points, with West Ham just behind them on 36.97. But all you smart people know that decimal point is not possible, so we have to dig a little deeper into the fixture…

Team expected points Crystal Palace 47.97 Leeds 41.86 Nottingham Forest 40.98 Spurs 38.44 West Ham 36.97 Burnley 26.15 Wolves 24.98

premier league relegation battle

Spurs are winless in 13 league games (D5 L8), their worst result since 1935. If they maintain anything close to that trajectory, they are doomed to decline.

Facilities are also not very comfortable. Based on comparable games last season, Spurs picked up just three points from five games (Sunderland and Leeds advanced from the Championship).

You could even drop to the bottom three before kicking the next ball.

West Ham face underground Wolves on April 10th. A win would see Spurs travel to Sunderland two days later, but they need a result to turn things around.

Remaining supplies:

West Hamspurs Forest Leeds Wolves (h) Sunderland (a) Villa (h) Man United (a) Palace (a) Brighton (h) Burnley (h) Wolves (h) Everton (h) Wolves (a) Sunderland (a) Bournemouth (a) Brentford (a) Aston Villa (a) Chelsea (a) Burnley (h) Arsenal (h) Leeds (h) Newcastle (h) Spurs (a) Newcastle (a)Chelsea (a)Man United (a)Brighton (h)Leeds (h)Everton (h)Bournemouth (h)West Ham (a)

Spurs’ home form is a big concern. They have the worst record in the league with just two wins all season.

Brighton & Hove Albion, Leeds and Everton all look winnable on paper, but points are not guaranteed on the current evidence.

For the first time since Tudor took charge, the results away from home were very satisfying. Trips to Sunderland, Aston Villa and Chelsea will be big tests, and the game at Wolves, who have improved significantly in recent weeks, will be crucial.

Frustratingly for Spurs fans, Spurs defeated Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid at home in a thrilling final stand in the UEFA Champions League, only to capitulate four days later against Forest at the same stadium.
That level is clearly there, winning last season’s UEFA Europa League was proof of that, but the consistency is gone.

There is no need to distract Europe any further. If they can make the right decision about who leads the final seven games, and if they do, that would be amazing.

Yet West Ham may actually be in an even deeper crisis. Arsenal at home and Newcastle United away will be the most formidable double-header of all four teams in the scrap, with minimal room for error. If they don’t beat the Timberwolves at the start of the run-in, it could end soon.

Leeds and Forest have points, and Burnley, who is in poor form, has moved to both clubs, maintaining their advantage. But Forest’s games at Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United in early May look brutal.

It could also be the final day, with Spurs hosting Europe-chasing Everton at home and West Ham facing Leeds. Spurs’ fate could be decided in the final 90 minutes.
