Liverpool have faced calls for Arne Slott to be sacked in recent weeks as their performances and results continue to frustrate supporters, but the club’s owners have made their position clear.
Liverpool have no plans to sack Arne Slott despite a disastrous failure to defend their Premier League title. Instead, two other big names could leave Anfield this summer.
Slott, 47, led Liverpool to their second league title in 35 years in his first season. However, the Reds have plummeted this season and find themselves languishing in fifth place, a whopping 21 points behind current leaders Arsenal, with seven games remaining.
Liverpool’s form has led to calls for Slott to be sacked from some sections of the club, especially after former midfielder Xabi Alonso became available in January. However, The Independent reports that Anfield bosses have no intention of changing managers.
Club leaders believe there are mitigating factors behind the team’s decline, with an influx of new signings, the departure of several big names and the tragic death of Diogo Jota making Slott’s job significantly more difficult. However, there may be a change over him.

The Saudi Pro League is targeting both Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes this summer. Mr Edwards is CEO of football at Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group and previously served as the club’s sporting director.
That role currently falls to Hughes, who arrived from Bournemouth in the summer of 2024 at the same time as Slott. Edwards’ position has been the subject of speculation following FSG’s decision not to implement a planned multi-club strategy, a project that saw Edwards take charge.
Edwards has been highly praised for his work at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, and is expected to leave Anfield in 2022, with Chelsea one of the clubs that approached him. Meanwhile, Hughes is said to be a target of Saudi club Al Hilal as they aim to improve their global standing.

Liverpool’s sporting director will naturally be involved in any decisions regarding Slott’s future. Hughes recently reaffirmed his faith in his former Feyenoord manager and opened up about their working relationship.
“Essentially, there is an understanding from both parties and all the wides that everything related to match day, team selection and tactics is always done by the manager or head coach,” Hughes explained on an episode of Reds Roundtable. “That’s their territory, and it’s very important that we don’t go into it.
“Of course we talk about football and performance, but I always let Arne take the lead. Naturally, in the conversation I give my opinion and not only react to Arne’s opinion. But it is important to always wait for the right moment to share these things.”
