Liverpool will lose Mohamed Salah in the summer, but the managerial job at Anfield remains uncertain, with Xabi Alonso’s position on being appointed manager very clear
Liverpool have no plans to sack manager Arne Slott in the summer, but reports suggest Xabi Alonso is open to taking over as manager. The ill-fated Dutchman has been forced to dwell on his latest defeat, which saw them finish 10th in the Premier League this season, but the club’s hierarchy are said to remain committed to him.
The Independent reported that there are no plans to sack the 47-year-old as there are a number of mitigating factors behind his failed title defense. However, BILD Sport reports that Alonso would be willing to return to Anfield if offered, but that the Spaniard would demand more influence over the team’s plans as he does not want to repeat the negative experience of his short spell at Real Madrid.
Contact is reportedly maintained through German media with the former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid head coach. He has been out of work since January, when he was sacked by Los Blancos. However, for Alonso to return to management and Liverpool, his demands, which are said to feature more say in team planning, would need to be met, were rejected before he could replace Carlo Ancelotti in the Spanish capital.

Liverpool are five points off the top four, putting them in a difficult position as the season enters the final two months. There is a real threat that the Reds will miss out on qualifying for Europe’s elite competition, which will have a huge impact on transfer spending and the acquisition of promising players.
The safety net of fifth place they currently hold in the table is a possibility, but to extend that possibility England would have to remain in the top two of the coefficient rankings, which seems very likely at the moment.

Liverpool can automatically qualify by winning the Champions League even if they finish outside of the top four, but they need to beat holders Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals and then either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid to secure a spot in Budapest.
What we do know in the coming months is that Mohamed Salah will be taking part in a farewell tour. The Egyptian made the bombshell announcement on Tuesday night that he will be leaving the Reds in the summer.
According to reports, the 33-year-old has reached an agreement with Liverpool to end his two-year contract early, allowing him to leave for free.
Salah was at the forefront of Liverpool’s contract discussions during their Premier League winning campaign. The sideshow surrounding Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the potential loss of the trio on free transfers, threatened to derail the season until the Egyptian stepped up to lead Liverpool to the top.
The prospect of a move to the Saudi Professional League had been looming ever since the forward made a lucrative offer 12 months prior to his extension.
Following this announcement, clubs in Saudi Arabia are back on the move. According to The Independent, Salah is not the only player they are targeting. Sporting director Richard Hughes and football chief executive Michael Edwards are wanted.
The Saudi club are said to be targeting two Anfield executives for Middle East bosses. The news comes just a week after FSG eased its pursuit of multi-club profiling led by Edwards.
