“We’ll buy someone who has box office revenue” – Gerrard talks about potential successors to Salah

Since joining from Roma in 2017, Salah has played in 435 games and scored 255 goals, showing great success.
“Liverpool will probably be looking for more one-on-one merchants who can play outside,” Gerrard said. “Certainly this season, when they had that spell when they were very inconsistent, they were too predictable on the side.
“And the way this manager (Arne Slott) wants to play is to work together from side to side and create one-on-one relationships. They were without (Luis) Diaz a lot of times. I think we need to work on that side of the pitch.”
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has suggested three potential candidates to replace Salah, including Bayern Munich’s Michael Oliseh.
“Replacing Mo will be difficult and expensive. It will require a very special person.
“If you’re Liverpool, I think you need to go for players who are ready, tried and tested. For me that would be a talented player like Olise. If you’re talking about the right Olise for Liverpool, that’s box office.”
“(PSG’s Bradley) Barcola can play on the left or the right. Leipzig have a young player in (Jan) Diomande, who is only 19 years old. He leaves people dead.”

Gerrard further added: “I would be very surprised if we don’t have these types of players on the market because we need to get a box-office player or we can’t replace him.”
“To replace Mo Salah, you have to be a top-end, top-three or four-winger in the world, because that’s what he was.”
Gerrard also shared his thoughts on two West Ham players who could potentially replace Salah: Crisencio Somerville and Jarrod Bowen.
Somerville has developed into a key player for the Hammers, especially this year, while Bowen has impressed over several seasons.
“I love Somerville,” Gerrard said. “He’s been great going 1-1 and seems to have a hungry spirit. He’s been a shining light on a team that’s been struggling and has gotten better as the season has gone on.”

“I really like Bowen and think he’s a top player, but I don’t know if he’s at the level to replace Salah.”
Salah is now third on Liverpool’s all-time top scorer list, behind Ian Rush (346 points) and Roger Hunt (285 points).
Despite a dip in form this season and at times being left out of the squad, Gerrard said: “He’s been phenomenal in terms of consistency and numbers and he’s definitely being talked about as the best player in Premier League history.”
However, Ally McCoist believes Bowen could be an option in place of Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon.
“I like Anthony Gordon, but I’m not sure his overall quality will attract Liverpool. Given his pace, I think he would be better suited to play against a team with a high line.”
“I think a player like Jarrod Bowen could play there. He was an outstanding player at West Ham and I strongly believe that in a team like Liverpool his game could rise again.”
Liverpool’s next match will be against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, April 4th, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
