Manchester United prospect Bendito Mantat is expected to miss the rest of the season after sustaining an ankle injury while playing for the Red Devils Under-21s.
Manchester United’s young talent Bendito Mantat is expected to miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury.
Mantato, 18, was injured after coming on as a substitute in the Under-21s’ match against Chelsea at the start of the month. And the Manchester Evening News reports that the talented teenager is now wearing protective boots, meaning his season is effectively over.
Mantato started the competition against Peterborough, Derby County and Oxford United earlier in the competition, but was relegated to the stands during Manchester United’s Under-18s’ win over Sunderland in the quarter-finals.

The U18 team will next face Crystal Palace in the Youth Cup semi-final. If United’s promising young players make it through, they could face Manchester City in a mini-Manchester derby final at the Etihad, albeit without Mantat.
Mantato is one of the most promising players in United’s academy. He initially played as a left-back in academy matches, but gradually moved to playing mainly on the right wing, and his playing style has already been compared to Bukayo Saka, who started his career as a defender.
Last season, manager Ruben Amorim named Mantato in his senior matchday squad for both the home and away Europa League semi-finals against Athletic Bilbao. Mantato was then selected for the U.S. tour squad and pitched for the first team against Wolves in December.
The academy’s aim is to recover from injury in time to join this summer’s pre-season touring squad, which will include more youngsters than usual due to the World Cup.
Mantato played for England’s Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 teams throughout his career.
