Mohamed Salah has announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of this season. The Egyptian suddenly confirmed the news in a video uploaded to social media.
In addition to speaking to the camera, he also included a compilation of his best moments at the club between the comments. Salah joined from AS Roma in the summer of 2017 in a £34m deal. There were many doubts about his arrival, given his short spell at Chelsea. However, he will leave the Merseysiders as their third-highest scorer of all time behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. He also leaves as one of the best players in Premier League history.
In a video uploaded to social media, the player said: “Hello everyone. Unfortunately this day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season.”
“The first thing I wanted to say is that I never imagined that this club, this city and these people would be part of my life. Liverpool is more than just a football club, it’s a passion, a history and a spirit. I can’t explain those words to anyone who isn’t a member of this club.”
“We celebrated victories, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the most difficult times of our lives. I would like to thank everyone who has been part of this club throughout the time I have been here, especially my team-mates past and present. And to the fans: there are not enough words. For the support you have shown me during the best times of my career and for being there for me during the most difficult times.”
“It’s something I’ll never forget and something I’ll always carry with me. It’s never easy to leave. You gave me the time of my life and I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home for me and for my family. Thank you for everything. Thanks to you, I will never walk alone.”
Liverpool also released a statement confirming the news, tweeting: “Mohamed Salah will bring the curtain down on his brilliant career at Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season. The time to fully celebrate his achievements and accomplishments will be later this year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”
Liverpool stars Alexis Mac Allister, Andrew Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenbirch have all uploaded various messages of condolence, while former Reds Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson have also sent their own public messages.
Salah could add to the two Premier League, two League Cup, FA Cup, Club World Cup and Champions League accolades he already has in his trophy cabinet, given that Liverpool still have the FA Cup and Champions League remaining.
