Ebelesi Eze will miss Sunday’s Carabao Cup final due to injury, with the Arsenal star forced to withdraw from the England squad ahead of the next friendly.
Newcastle star Harvey Barnes is expected to be announced as Eberechi Eze’s replacement in England’s squad for friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan. Eze, 27, was absent from Sunday’s Carabao Cup final due to injury as Arsenal suffered a disastrous 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Eze’s absence has forced Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel to change his plans after naming a 35-man expansion squad on Friday. After playing in Newcastle’s 2-1 home defeat to Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby, Barnes was called up and will join up with his new team-mates at St George’s Park.
The 28-year-old earned his first England cap in a friendly against Wales in 2020 but has not featured since. Burns had recently considered switching his allegiance to Scotland ahead of this summer’s World Cup, but ultimately decided against it.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke confirmed on BBC Radio 5 Live last month: “I can say for certain this time that Harvey will not be coming to Scotland as he will be concentrating on playing for England.”

“You can put it out there. No one has to ask me or Harvey about it anymore.” Was I disappointed? No, listen, Harvey can make his own decisions. we move on. ”
Tuchel will effectively split this month’s international window into two camps, giving a much-needed break to selected players he has worked with over the years as England manager. After playing Uruguay at Wembley on Friday, these regulars will join up with the rest of the squad ahead of Tuesday’s game against Japan.
“Then we decided to basically split it into almost two camps, so we called up players who hadn’t played much before to clarify the situation and spark competition for tickets to the United States,” Tuchel explained.

“Then from Friday or Saturday, a group of players will go into camp. We will have 10 or 11 players who will come and rest before that and then we will have a new group of players and a new composition for the game against Japan.”
The England manager added: “I believe we need two hungry teams to play Uruguay and Japan. They are very different opponents but they are very good football teams so I believe we need two hungry teams. We need top quality and we need hunger and excitement to create excitement.”
