Liverpool’s Premier League title defense has been plagued by a number of injuries throughout the season, with Italian winger Federico Chiesa having problems of late.
Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa has left the Italian national team, adding to the Reds’ injury problem. The forward has been given a spot in the national squad for the upcoming international break.
This marked his return to international play for the first time in two years. However, Chiesa has already left the camp and will not play a role.
A statement from FIGC reads as follows: “The Azzurri have reported to Coverciano today that they will begin their training camp, with the first session taking place this afternoon ahead of the World Cup play-off semi-final against Northern Ireland in Bergamo on Thursday night (20:45 CET).”
“Federico Chiesa was examined upon his arrival at the Federal Technical Center and was ruled unable to play in the next two matches. By agreement with the club, he has left the team. Bologna winger Nicolo Cambiaghi has been called up to replace him.”
Chiesa’s departure from the team is yet another frustrating chapter for the former Juventus winger. Due to a series of injuries, he has only appeared in 46 games for Liverpool since joining, with only nine of them starting.

Liverpool manager Arne Slott will be hoping his problems don’t last long. A number of players have already been sidelined with long-term problems, including Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley and Wataru Endo, while Alisson, Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike have also had problems in the past week.
Asked after the defeat against Brighton whether there was a lack of sympathy for Liverpool’s long-term injured list, Slott replied: “No, I completely sympathize with everyone who is saying this, because no one in England is used to the fact that some clubs sell players.”
“Normally in England, when a club buys for £450m, which we did, it’s adding that much more to an already great team. But this club has a different model. No one wants to see that, no one wants to understand, which I can understand, because fans of other teams and some experts don’t want to say we sold for £300 million.”
“So if a £150 million player never plays, that’s already one thing. If Giovanni Leoni doesn’t play due to injury, that’s already a secondary thing. So now we’re already below what we sold for.
“Jeremy Frimpong has recently become more and more likely, and (Giorgi) Mamadashvili was also one of the players who signed a second goalkeeper for £450m. “If you won the league last season and spent £150m instead of £450m, the expectations were very high and it makes perfect sense that the expectations were high for the pundits, the media, myself and the fans.
“But at our club, we also look at the situation, what we had, the challenges we had during this season, and then maybe we can think a little more realistically about why this season went the way it did. But it’s still not enough. No matter how many excuses we come up with, it’s still not enough. The position we’re in now.”
