Tottenham head coach Igor Tudor was informed of the news of his father Mario’s death following Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Spurs manager was absent from media duties following the defeat in north London due to an “urgent bereavement with his family”. Now, Tudor’s former club Juventus has announced the passing of his father, paying tribute to the Croatian.
They posted on X (formerly Twitter): “We are close to Igor Tudor and his family. Juventus joins us in mourning the death of his father.” Immediately after the disappointing result against Forest, Tudor was relieved of his press conference responsibilities.
Bruno Salter spoke to journalists instead and provided an update on his colleague. “This is a personal family matter and obviously a difficult moment for him. I’m just trying to support him in the best way I can.”
Forest currently sit above Spurs in the Premier League table, despite Spurs suffering a crushing defeat against their relegation rivals. The defeat further heightened Tottenham’s fears of possible relegation from the Championship, leaving Tottenham without a win in the league after 13 games.
“The players are affected by the rhythm of the game and we just couldn’t find that rhythm and create more chances,” Salter said. “I thought the first half, the first 44 minutes were good, really good, we created chances and got into the box.In the second half, we probably couldn’t cope with the weight of the game.
Salter, who played a similar role in the dugout during Graham Potter’s time at Chelsea, added: “It’s a small detail, but for 44 minutes in the first half I thought we were the better team.”
