Two Brentford players appear to have been left covered in blood after they intervened to stop a racially motivated attack in the early hours of Sunday.
Two Brentford University star players were left “bloody” after helping a man who was the target of a racist assault in London in the early hours of Sunday.
The alleged assault happened at around 2am in Richmond, just a few miles from Brentford’s home base. Witnesses said the unnamed Brentford players helped calm the situation before police arrived, but both were injured.
According to the Telegraph, both players were returning from Leeds, where Brentford were held to a goalless draw at Elland Road. The game was the last before the international break and the West Londoners allowed the players to make their own travel arrangements.
None of the players involved in thwarting the alleged assault suffered serious injuries, and both were expected to be in good health as of Sunday.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police attended a report of an assault on Queen’s Road, Richmond at around 2am on Sunday 22nd March. Officers are engaging with the victim. Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.”

Brentford’s draw in Yorkshire, combined with some defeats to surrounding teams, keeps Brentford firmly in the European picture. Manchester United drew with Bournemouth on Friday night, but lost away to Chelsea and Liverpool on Saturday.
This means that the Bees, who lost their two leading scorers and their coach in the summer, are sitting in seventh place this season, defying all expectations. Despite being listed as a relegation candidate in pre-season under new head coach Keith Andrews, they are only three points behind in fifth place, which should be enough to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Andrews said after the draw with Leeds: “I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say we were nervous coming into the game after a chaotic week. I have to say the players have been absolutely fantastic in terms of how they’ve coped with the changes in our plans and the way we’ve run things. The clean sheet was huge and the way we defended the box was sensational.”
“In the last five or 10 minutes, whatever happened, I think all I wanted to say to the players at the end of the game was the pride I feel every time I watch them play, including the staff.”
