England star Lucy Bronze fights injuries to help the Lioness defeat Spain in the Euro 2025 final and maintain the championship on Sunday

Lucy Bronze has created a heroic effort to help England lead glory in Euro 2025.

The 33-year-old Bronze boasts 140 caps in her country, but she has shown an incredible spirit to win a handful of those recent times. Despite being injured in the Euro, only three of his teammates have played more than 598 minutes in the bronze in Switzerland.

The Chelsea star managed Hercules for 105 minutes as the UK defeated Spain in the final and destroyed his right leg in a dramatic ranking victory over Sweden. That performance summed up the bronze – the scoring puts the tie back to 2-1 before stepping in for a winning penalty in the shootout, perfect fit for the middle name, tough.

Lucia Roberta’s tough bronze-born English icon was given her appropriate middle name, as it was the name of her mother, Diane’s maiden. The Bronze showed her considerable toughness as she enjoyed her British penalty shootout victory over Spain on Sunday.

“I actually fractured my tibia and played the entire tournament, but no one knew,” Bronze told BBC Sports. “I hurt my knee with my other leg today. So I’m feeling a lot of pain and I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Swedish match.

“But if that’s what it takes to play for the UK, that’s what I do – they know that. We inspire each other by playing things like that and finally brought us together.”

Asked if her injuries weaken her celebration, Bronze added: “It’s very painful. I’m going to the party, I’m going to enjoy it, that’s all.”

For X, one fan wrote: “Lucy ‘Tough’ Bronze, you’re a superhuman. “Posted in the second: “I looked up Lucy Bronze and see how old she is and thought someone was taking part in the Wiki Editing again, but no, her middle name is really difficult…”

The third said, “No one fits their name more than Lucy Tough Bronze.” The fourth agreed: “No one except Lucy Bronze, who plays the entire tournament with a broken tibia. Her middle name is strict for a reason.”

Bronze’s determination to help England win the Euro was encapsulated by continuing to overcome the pain until she blew through tears when she was eventually replaced. England boss Sarina Wigman has won the Euro for three consecutive times as manager and has chosen bronze for praise.

“She had some issues with her tibia, so of course we tried to manage it,” Wiegman said. “When you play for 120 minutes, you don’t control it? The whole team has a great mentality, but she has a crazy mentality. It’s incredible.”

Bronze’s efforts were not lost either in her fellow Lioness. “Lucy, I… I… I have no words,” England centre back Jess Carter said as reported by Athletic. “Lucy Bronze is just… I don’t know either. She’s incredible.

“Also, it’s very stubborn to continue playing when she can’t run or walk. She goes through the path. She’s stubborn, but she’s the winner and the victory is her DNA. That’s what she wants to do.

The Bronze has represented England in seven major tournaments, but has not given a definitive answer as to whether they are aiming to be part of the 2027 World Cup team. However, her British and Chelsea teammate Niam Charles was not surprised by the bronze sacrifice to help England win.

“She’s just going to get through it,” England and Chelsea teammate Charles said of the bronze. “No one really knows how much she’s dealing with. It’s very incredible, but if anyone did it, it would have been her.” Charles, who put together the legacy of the bronze, concluded, “Yeah, proper, proper English. She’s a credit to that and the English legend.”
