Manchester United plan to sign two midfielders after losing Casemiro this summer and already have a number of options in the Premier League, including Wolves’ Brazil international
Joao Gomez is on the radar of Manchester United as the Old Trafford manager plans to revamp his midfield this summer.
The 25-year-old Brazil international is expected to leave Wolves this summer after Wanderers are relegated to the Championship. Signed from Brazilian side Flamengo in January 2023, he has been an integral part of Rob Edwards’ side’s recent improvement in form, impressing in wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool, finding the net in the former.
A number of teams in the Premier League are keeping an eye on Gomez, with United among those keeping an eye on his situation. Gomes hopes to further his international credentials by remaining in the Premier League.
So, despite signing a new contract with Wolves last April, he is almost certain to leave this summer, and if the price is right, he will be able to do so. A trip to Old Trafford will see him reunite with close friend Matheus Cunha, who joined United from Wolves last summer.
United are in the market for two midfielders, with Casemiro set to leave at the end of his contract and Manuel Ugarte, who has struggled to make an impact since joining from Paris Saint-Germain, set to be sold.
Elliott Anderson is also high on United’s shortlist, but Manchester City are also in the hunt for the 23-year-old England ace. United have maintained an interest in Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleva despite a dip in form this season, with Adam Wharton also one of the players they are keeping an eye on, as well as Bournemouth’s Alex Scott. Ineos are keen to add midfield players with Premier League experience.
As a result, Sandro Tonali is also on United’s radar. The Italian could be forced to leave as Newcastle have struggled this season and are likely to miss out on next season’s Champions League. United will be wary if that happens.
Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães has also been linked with a move, with Real Madrid also mentioned as a potential suitor for the 28-year-old Brazilian.
