Liam Rosenior has provided an injury update ahead of Chelsea’s game against Everton. The Blues will be without several key players when they take on David Moyes’ side at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Addressing journalists at Cobham training ground on Thursday afternoon, Rosenior began by outlining the recovery period for Trevor Chalobah, who suffered an ankle injury in Chelsea’s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night. The Blues defender suffered an ankle injury and was stretchered off the pitch towards the end of the second half.
“I didn’t see the footage until after the game, but I was really worried,” Rosenior said.
“Fortunately, it’s not as serious as we initially feared. We think it will probably last six weeks.”
Rosenior also provided an update on Levi Colwill, who recently returned to first-team training after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the summer.
The Chelsea manager admitted that despite Colwill making good progress in his rehabilitation, he still faces being out for “some time”.
“In the ACL, he has achieved all the necessary benchmarks, but we need to ensure that he continues to exceed a certain level,” Rosenior said. “He’s still under observation for a while.”
Chelsea’s manager later revealed that Filip Jorgensen will need surgery after suffering a groin problem after the first leg of the UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.
“Philippe underwent tests but needed a minor surgery. It’s only a matter of a few weeks,” Rosenior said.
Regarding Reece James, who suffered a hamstring injury earlier this week, Rosenior added: “We will look into Reece more after the international break.”
“It’s not serious, but there’s something wrong with my hamstring, so I’ll have it checked after the break.”
Chelsea have lost each of their last three games and Rosenior is determined to reverse their fortunes ahead of the upcoming international break.
“When you lose a game, there’s always damage,” he says.
“I’m learning about the team, the players, the staff. I learned a lot this week. Every manager goes through a difficult week.
“I’ve had difficult times before. I’ve lost games in a lot of jobs, as have other managers. We need to find a way to compete at Everton and get through the difficult times.”
