Galatasaray’s Noah Lang was sent off late in the defeat to Liverpool and was seen bleeding from his thumb, prompting the Dutch star to issue a statement from the Turkish club after becoming visibly uncomfortable.
Galatasaray have announced that Noah Lang will undergo surgery in Liverpool after sustaining a serious injury late in the defeat to Anfield.
Lang collapsed with 10 minutes out of time after colliding with a billboard and immediately held his thumb down. Bloodstains were seen and the match was stopped for several minutes before the player had to be taken away on a stretcher. Medics from both teams rushed to treat Lang, and his thumb had to be bandaged to stop the bleeding.
The forward was also seen being given oxygen as he left the pitch. Lang replaced Victor Osimhen, whose playing time was cut short due to injury.
Galatasaray lost 4-0 at Anfield, a 1-0 lead from the match in Istanbul was quickly overturned and they were eliminated from the Champions League. The Turkish side confirmed that Lang’s suspension has been finalized and that Osimhen may follow suit.
“During the first half of the away game against Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, our player Victor Osimhen suffered a blow to the arm and finished the first half, but a half-time test revealed that he was unable to play in the second half due to the risk of breaking his arm,” the statement said.

“After the match, tests at the hospital under the supervision of the medical team revealed that the player had a fracture in his right forearm, which was placed in a cast. Following further tests, a decision on surgery will be made in the coming days. “Our player Noah Lang, who was also injured in the second half of the match, sustained a serious injury to his right thumb and will undergo surgery in the next few hours in Liverpool with the participation of the medical team.
Osimhen reacted angrily in the first half after appearing to be challenged by Liverpool players over his injury while receiving treatment for several minutes. He was then forced off by the introduction of Lang.
Ally McCoist, commentator for TNT Sports, claimed that Lang’s injury proved to be an ugly one. He said: “I don’t know if one of the girls there was a photographer or not, but by the look on her face and her reaction I could tell there was something seriously wrong.”
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk criticized referee Szymon Marciniak for being one of the worst referees after his team’s loss. “Mentally we lost the game and Osimhen’s injury was the breaking point and he was thinking too much about his arm,” he said.
“Initially, we were a pressing team in the first half and our confidence was low. Today it looked like a foul on Brock. We were expecting one of the best referees in the world, but (he) was one of the worst referees we’ve come across.”
