Galatasaray have announced that Noah Lang will undergo surgery after sustaining a serious injury during the match against Liverpool. Lang was carried off on a stretcher after colliding with an advertising board late in the 4-0 Champions League defeat at Anfield.
The forward collapsed in agony after seeing the damage to his finger and was immediately treated. He required oxygen before being carried off the field on a stretcher, and manager Okan Buruk later confirmed he was taken straight to hospital. And in a new update released early on Thursday, Galatasaray confirmed that Lang’s injury was “serious” and would require surgery.
“During the second half of the same game, our injured player Noah Lang sustained a serious injury to his right thumb and will undergo surgery in the next few hours in Liverpool with the participation of our medical team,” the latest update revealed.
Lang was brought on at half-time to replace Victor Osimhen after the Nigerian striker injured his wrist in an earlier game.
And in the same update, Galatasaray confirmed that Osimhen had fractured his right forearm and that a decision on surgery would be made in the coming days following further tests.
A statement published in X said: “During the first half of the away game against Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, our player Victor Osimhen suffered a blow to the arm and finished the first half, but a half-time test revealed that he did not play in the second half as there was a risk of breaking his arm.
“After the match, tests at the hospital under the supervision of the medical team revealed that the player had a fracture in his right forearm, which was placed in a cast. Following further tests, a decision on surgery will be made in the coming days.”
The Turkish side had a 1-0 lead going into the second leg at Anfield after an excellent performance in Istanbul, but were simply second best against Arne Slott’s side at Anfield.
Dominik Szoboszlai put his side ahead midway through the first half before quick-fire goals from Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Grafenberch and Mohamed Salah set up a quarter-final draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
