Andy Robertson’s contract expires in the summer and talk of an extension with Liverpool continues to ring, but the Scot has downplayed talk about his future.
Andy Robertson rubbished talk about Liverpool’s future ahead of their clash with Galatasaray, insisting no one should be “talking about the future” ahead of the huge game.
The Scottish player’s contract is due to expire this summer as things stand. He has been at Anfield since 2017, winning the Premier League and Champions League titles, but is no longer in the starting role he once was.
Liverpool signed Milos Kerkes in the summer, making him a direct competition for Robertson at left-back, but he has started just six league games so far as a result. Due to his role in the team, there were rumors that he could leave in January and move to Tottenham, but the 32-year-old has chosen to stay.
His experience remains a huge asset and he recently underlined his quality on the pitch by scoring the opening goal in the FA Cup win against Wolves. Robertson’s next move remains a hot topic, but he refuses to be drawn into speculation.
“I don’t think today is the day to discuss that. I don’t think anyone should be talking about their future 24 hours before a big game in the Champions League. We have a big game like this ahead of us and the team’s full concentration is going to get through tomorrow. We’re struggling but that’s what we have to focus on.”

Liverpool will be aiming to overturn their 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League last 16 first leg. The Turkish side will head to Anfield with a close lead, but the Reds will still be dreaming of a place in the quarter-finals.
Kerkes started in last weekend’s loss to Istanbul and has been appointed as manager Arne Slott’s left-back role this season. Robertson recently admitted the club need to look to the future and what will happen after he leaves, but does not feel he still has anything left to prove at Anfield.
“Look, it is what it is. Milos (Kerkes) is a fantastic left-back. He had an incredible season at Bournemouth last season. It took him a little while to get used to a big club, but that’s what everyone does. But the club… You know you’ve got to move on. Players who’ve been here a long time, we’re not getting any younger, we’re all in our 30s, you know we’ve got to have a replacement come in. We said, ‘Know that. ”
The Scot added: “I don’t know if I have anything to prove in a Liverpool shirt. I think the fans know that I give it my all every time I step on the pitch and I want them to believe that, and I’ve been doing that for nine years, so that’s not really the case. When I get on the pitch, I just want to enjoy it.”
