Max Dauman’s father Robert slams Temisan Williams on social media after the youth coach appeared on a radio talk show to discuss his role in the Arsenal star’s journey
A coach accused of cashing in on Max Dorman’s success has been called by the Arsenal star’s father to apologize. Dowman’s story has gained attention after he became the Premier League’s youngest goalscorer at the weekend.
The 16-year-old scored the breakthrough goal to give Arsenal a 2-0 win against Everton on Saturday. The exciting winger has made several appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this season, but his goal took things to a new level.
Amidst the excitement over Dauman’s achievements, Temisan Williams was invited to appear on talkSPORT, where he was promoted as ‘Dauman’s former coach’. And although Williams insisted it was “just part of the journey,” his appearance on the radio station irritated the boy’s father.
Robert Dauman wrote in X: “It’s a really sad attempt at self-promotion to hear a man called Temisan Williams claim to have been on Max’s journey. I previously asked him not to do that, but he still showed up on talkSPORT this morning…

“I remember him letting the cones out a few times in training, but that’s about it. We have a lot of great coaches that we’re really grateful for, and he’s certainly not one of them…”
Mr. Williams has now responded with his own statement. He posted on X: “In response to Rob Dowman’s comments today, I have spoken with Rob Dowman and apologized to him and his family. I will no longer discuss Max Dowman’s development. I wish Rob Dowman and his family continued success.”
Dowman was mobbed by his team-mates after showing great composure to beat two Everton players and score into an empty net in the closing stages after Jordan Pickford attempted a corner kick. With this goal, he broke James Vaughan’s record as the youngest Premier League scorer, set in 2005.
Williams, whose social media profiles say he has coached at Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham, appeared on TalkSPORT with Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor on Monday morning and gave an insight into Dauman’s rise.
“What Max has achieved is unbelievable. It’s great for the family, the academy, the club and the fans. He should just enjoy the moment and I know he has done that,” he said.
“First of all, the scouts have done a great job. I was an assistant coach with the Under-12s and I got to watch Max for two years, so I was just a small part of his journey, but Max always had the super strength of being able to carry the ball. It’s always something he enjoys, it’s something he’s good at, and it’s something we saw in training as well.”
A previous post on Robert Dowman’s X account revealed who he believes will be key to his son’s development at Arsenal: the club’s academy scout Johnny Knight.
“Proud day for us. Nothing would be possible without this man. Thank you Johnny Knight,” he wrote. “We discovered Max at the age of four and brought him into Arsenal. The best scout in the business and an even better person. Johnny Knight.”
