Manchester United’s Premier League rivals will be on high alert as Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to make six players redundant. The La Liga side are said to be planning a summer overhaul and could be able to sign some of their top talent at discounted prices.
It has been a season full of ups and downs for the record-breaking European champions. They started the season with Xabi Alonso in charge, but the Spanish manager was quickly sacked at the start of the year. There is little incentive for Barcelona to win the La Liga title given they are still in the lead, but caretaker manager Alvaro Arbeloa has had some big results in the Champions League.
Regardless of what happens with Los Blancos between now and the end of the season, it’s expected to be a busy summer in the Spanish capital. BILD reports that up to six players could leave, led by defender David Alaba.
The 33-year-old’s contract expires this summer, but a renewal is unlikely due to repeated injury problems. The Austrian may not attract much attention from the big players in the Premier League, but fellow defender Antonio Rudiger could instead.
Like Alaba, Rudiger is 33 years old but has impressed at times in recent months. The door remains open for a renewal if he catches his eye between now and the end of the season, but it is claimed he will leave as a free agent if not.
United are said to be in the market for a centre-back, and Rudiger’s continental experience could be of paramount importance given the Red Devils are expected to return to the Champions League. Furthermore, United could double their experience by signing Dani Carvajal, who is also nearing the end of his contract.
The right-back will never be a starter at Old Trafford, but given United’s return to Europe and more games to play, he could be a useful option again. But the best bargains may be found elsewhere.
That’s because Eduardo Camavinga is among the names said to be on Real Madrid’s clearing list. The 23-year-old midfielder will no doubt attract the attention of clubs across the continent, particularly clubs such as United, Liverpool and Arsenal, who have been linked with midfield reinforcements.
The Frenchman has failed to break into the starting XI during his time at the club and is reported to be available for just £44 million. Left-backs Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia are also expected to attract interest from Premier League sides, with at least one of them expected to leave the club.
