Liverpool’s disappointing season took another turn on Sunday as they were caught out by struggling Tottenham Hotspur in the closing stages and Roy Keane failed to pull any punches.
Manager Roy Keane once again accused Liverpool of being “bad champions” after accusing them of partying too much. The Reds’ title defense has not gone well under Arne Slott this season.
The reigning champions drew 1-1 with struggling Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday, but are currently 21 points behind leaders Arsenal. Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal gave Liverpool the lead, but Richarlison equalized late in the game.
Manchester United icon Keane, who has slammed Liverpool’s title defense in the past, has criticized Liverpool’s approach again this season.
He told Sky Sports: “I’ve said it many times before, Liverpool are bad champions, considering they were league champions last year. They’re 21 points behind Arsenal at the moment. How bad is this? It’s really bad.”
He added: “I think there are issues going on in the background, but I think there are bigger issues…I don’t know if we’re all on the same page, but there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of chemistry with the players.”

“Last year I was criticizing Liverpool and I felt like they were always partying too much. They were partying even though there were four, five, six weeks until the game… You’re Liverpool Football Club, aren’t you expected to win the league title? So if you win it, enjoy it. But let’s back it up next year.”
And while Keane tore into Liverpool, Reds midfielder Szoboszlai has done the same, insisting that a European spot could not be better for the team this season.
After the draw with Spurs, he said: “Last minute, again, I don’t know how many more times this season. We’ve got to wake up. We’re feeling flat. We’ve got to wake up, because if we keep going like this we should be happy in the conference league. I honestly don’t know why this is happening.”
“I thought we played very well in the first half, we controlled the whole game and created few chances apart from one or two headers. We couldn’t do the same in the second half. We have to sit together and stick together, even though this is the most difficult period.”
Liverpool will resume play in the middle of this week, hosting Galatasaray in the second leg of the Champions League last 16. Slot’s team is trailing 1-0 following last week’s loss to Turkey.
