Newcastle star Anthony Gordon has been at the center of controversy over the past week, criticizing legendary forward Alan Shearer for his comments.
Alan Shearer has no regrets about what he said about Anthony Gordon, despite the Newcastle star hitting back. The legendary former forward has slammed the England star, who missed the Champions League game against Barcelona due to illness.
He insisted that he was always going to be on the pitch, regardless of his physical fitness. He said: “I may be old-fashioned, but if you are fit enough to train in the morning, and I know he doesn’t feel well, this is Barcelona against Newcastle for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
“It’s going to take something special to protect us from this game tonight.”
Gordon responded by branding the comments made by Shearer and pundit Wayne Rooney as “utter nonsense”. Speaking to the winger, Shearer insisted he was glad Gordon spoke up but did not regret his outburst.

Speaking on the podcast The Rest Is Football, he said:
“I wouldn’t change anything I said last night against Barcelona. I would have missed the game because of my illness. I know the coach said (the decision).”
Gordon hit back at Shearer’s original comments after scoring the winning goal against Chelsea. “Normally I don’t like to clean up because I don’t really care about it. But this time I have to clean up because that was nonsense.”
“I didn’t watch it, but what the media people told me was complete and utter nonsense. I was in bed for three days, missed practice, so I was sick for three days. Then on game day I showed up ready to start, so I thought it was going to start.
“When I got to the stadium, the manager said I wasn’t starting. You can imagine I didn’t like it very much, but it’s the manager’s decision. The team played great, but to say I don’t want to play in the biggest game of my career is complete nonsense.”
He added: “I think it was Rooney who said he walked past me and went into the changing room without shaking my hand.
“In a changing room this big, I changed by myself. It was just me and the sink. So it was complete nonsense. I think they need to get better at what they’re doing.”
