Arsenal teenager Max Dauman became Premier League’s youngest ever scorer on Saturday, and John Terry already spotted elements of Lionel Messi as a teenager
Max Dauman stole the show during Arsenal’s win over Everton on Saturday, with John Terry praising him as a “legitimate talent” and comparing the teenage sensation to Lionel Messi.
The Gunners have seen their lead at the top of the table widen further with the buzz revolving around the latest Academy products. Dauman, who had enjoyed a cameo appearance in the Arsenal side, was picked on again late on and scored the comeback goal in stoppage time against the Toffees.
Everton’s goal became clear when Jordan Pickford went up for a corner, with Dowman leading the break from the corner and waltzing past two players before leaving the goal at their mercy at the end of the first half. With this goal, Dauman became the youngest scorer in Premier League history at 16 years and 73 days.
Dauman played like a player beyond his years and Terry was so impressed that the Chelsea legend quickly noticed his resemblance to Messi as he watched him maneuver past players with ease.
He said on TikTok: “Max Dauman, what an amazing player by the way. He’s 16 years old, an absolutely incredible player. I watched him play against Chelsea about a year ago and apart from Messi I’ve never seen a player slip through people like this guy. It’s a huge comparison, but this guy has the right talent and will be a big part of Arsenal’s future and England too. Super, super talented. It’s a big, big win for them (Arsenal).” Well, today. ”

Dauman is the club’s second-youngest player to represent the club, and the second-youngest player to play in the Premier League after fellow academy product Ethan Nwaneri. He enjoyed class in pre-season and was playing in the top flight at the age of 15.
Mikel Arteta’s confidence is so high that Dauman played in a game for Liverpool earlier this season. Messi won his first Ballon d’Or in 2009 at the age of 22 and quickly rose to the top of world football. The Arsenal ace continued to impress his team-mates with a proud Victor Gokeres.
“When I watch him play, I can’t believe he’s only 16 years old,” the Swedish star said after the win. “When he’s playing calm and confident with the ball, you don’t think about that. It’s unbelievable. It was great to see him score that goal.”
“He’s improving. He was out injured for a while, so I didn’t see him for a few months, but now he’s back and playing with the same confidence as before. When he’s on the pitch, he often makes the right decisions. He’s an unbelievable player.”
“He doesn’t seem fazed by the time, the moment, the situation or the opponent. He plays very naturally,” Arteta said of his young star.
