Jamie Carragher spoke freely about Liverpool’s players after the 1-1 Premier League draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
Jamie Carragher told Liverpool’s players they didn’t have the ability to attack and make it difficult for opponents after their failure against Tottenham. What was quickly becoming a weak campaign for the Reds took a turn for the worse against Igor Tudor’s side.
Dominik Szoboszlai took the lead after just 18 minutes with a superb free-kick, but Richarlison’s goal with a minute remaining gave his side a valuable point in their fight to avoid conceding. And Carragher couldn’t help but take aim at Liverpool’s players immediately after the final whistle.
He said: “It was a terrible performance. I don’t mean to disrespect Tottenham, but they are the worst team in the Premier League at the moment, probably for the last few months.”
“These are exactly the kind of players you want to play at home. This weekend’s result will give them an incentive and they’ll want to perform like that, but that’s been the case all season.
“And the big question on everyone’s lips is, is it with the coach or the composition of the team? Can a new coach fully reinvigorate this type of player and bring that energy and some kind of intensity back into this team? I don’t know.

“I think a lot of it goes back to what happened in the summer and the profile of the players that came in, but there are too many players who just want to play when the ball is at their feet.
“They don’t want to dig in and make it difficult. That’s why it’s so easy to play against this Liverpool team.”
And after Richarlison’s equaliser, Carragher insisted: ‘Yeah, it was coming. I said it all through the second half, Liverpool were sleepwalking into this result.
“And it was always him. He looked like Tottenham’s most dangerous player and Liverpool don’t challenge long balls.
“Andy Robertson doesn’t challenge long balls that are full of promise. He doesn’t know where Van Dijk is going to go, whether he’s going to jump or get in between, but he can’t react quickly and then Liverpool are completely frozen.”
“But you can’t say Tottenham don’t deserve it. They had their chances in the game. Most went to this guy, but this was definitely their best chance.”
“Van Dijk is furious, which is understandable. Like I said, I can’t say they don’t deserve it.”
