Max Dowman showed age is just a number with his incredible super-sub appearance against Everton
Max Dauman not only etched his name into history, but also eclipsed some of his team-mates with his stunning cameo against Everton. Arsenal extended their advantage at the top of the table to nine points, with Dauman becoming the youngest scorer in Premier League history at just 16 years and 73 days old.
The teenager was only introduced in the 74th minute as the Gunners faced David Moyes’ side. Dauman crossed for Viktor Gökeres in the 89th minute during his short time on the field, before showing remarkable composure late in stoppage time to seal the win after Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford advanced on a set-piece.
However, it wasn’t just his involvement in scoring that drew attention. In 23 minutes, he had 28 touches on the ball.
That was no less than four teammates who played significant minutes: Kai Havertz (61 minutes), Julian Timber (38 minutes), Gokeres (36 minutes) and Gabriel Martinelli (36 minutes).

This remarkable statistic highlights the confidence his colleagues have in him and shows he is ready to play more games. However, the decisive moment of the match was his goal.
After Pickford went up, Dauman darted from the edge of the area, past Everton’s remaining defenders and into the empty net.

Mikel Arteta said: “It was an incredible moment. We talked before the game that we would play with a constant desire to win every action and with the belief that we would find a way to achieve that.”
“The effort, quality and dedication of the players was sensational and it ended in a way that probably no one expected. It was one of our best moments together at the Emirates.”
Dowman was in his fourth year of life when former record holder James Vaughan scored the winning goal in Everton’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park in 2005. The first goal was scored by none other than Arteta.
Asked if the boys had earned a starting place in the league match, Arteta said: “Today let’s put our feet on the ground and enjoy this moment, because it was intense and worthwhile. And tomorrow will come.”
The Gunners’ day got even better on Saturday night as title rivals Man City drew 1-1 with West Ham.
