Liverpool host Tottenham this weekend, but Igor Tudor’s side are in desperate need of points and relegation could be on the horizon for the north Londoners.
Liverpool welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield on Sunday, with both teams in desperate need of points. While the Reds are looking to bounce back from defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League in midweek, Spurs will be hoping to break out of their slump.
The Lilywhites have had a dismal run under new manager Igor Tudor, are perilously close to the relegation zone and are battling a major injury crisis. A victory for Liverpool and strong results from West Ham and Nottingham Forest will only further swamp Tudor’s side.

Arne Slott hasn’t had an easy season at Liverpool. Struggling for consistency, the Reds now find themselves embroiled in a massive battle to finish in the top four. Here, Mirror Football shares what seven of the game’s top pundits have predicted for this weekend’s clash between the two teams.
Paul Merson – 3-0
Former Arsenal star Merson believes Liverpool beat Spurs 3-0 and the result will cost Tudor his job. He said: “The question is how many goals Liverpool can win. How long is Igor Tudor going to stay? My question is, who wants the Spurs job at the moment?”
“Tottenham will wait for it. They will get the Liverpool game out of the way before making a decision with Tudor. No one expects Spurs to win this game.”

“If Tottenham lose at Anfield, it would be a shock if Tudor is still in charge next weekend against Nottingham Forest, six points from relegation. I expect manager Arne Slott to go into this game with his best team. Liverpool will be hoping for an upset against Galatasaray in the second leg next week.”
Chris Sutton – 2-0
Former Blackburn Rovers star Sutton believes that while Liverpool are dealing with their own predicament, Spurs have too much on their plate and will run out of easy winners.
The Premier League winner said: “There really seem to be a lot of problems at Spurs. They sacked Thomas Frank, they were going to get a short-term fix from Tudor, but they got a player who was a shock in the short-term.”
“Liverpool are also far from convincing. Just to be clear, Arne Slott’s team did poorly against Turkey on Tuesday, so it’s not impossible for Spurs to win here. Slott is considering the second leg against Galatasaray and will make some changes, but they can’t lose to Tottenham, right? Prediction: 2-0.”
Wayne Rooney – 6-0
Manchester United icon Rooney believes the Reds will beat Spurs. Speaking on the latest episode of his Stick to Football podcast, the former England international suggested Slott’s side could riot at Anfield and score something close to a cricket score, while eliminating the north London side.
“I think it’s six,” Rooney said. “The players need to look at themselves because I think they’re lacking performance, attitude, lack of motivation, lack of fight, lack of everything. Looking at what’s happened in the last few games, I think they’re going to be depressed.”
Jamie Carragher – Liverpool win
The former Liverpool defender claimed on Sky Sports that the idea of playing against Spurs amid their recent struggles would be music to his former club’s ears. The former centre-back believes the team in the slot will win by a large margin.
“Liverpool will be overjoyed against a disorganized Spurs side and should get a big win,” he said. Carragher also claimed last month that the very concept of Spurs collapsing would be one of the biggest shocks in Premier League history.
“It’s often said that clubs are too big or too good to fail. No one would make that claim about Tottenham Hotspur,” the former Liverpool defender wrote in the Telegraph.
“If they fall into the Championship, it would be the most shocking fall in the Premier League era and the most embarrassing for a club of such wealth and fame since Manchester City backheel Dennis Law sent Manchester United into the Old Second Division in 1974.”
Gary Neville – 5-1
Former United captain Neville was instrumental in the Reds’ home victory. However, he ultimately broke that decline in favor of the Spurs.
“I don’t think they’re going to go down,” he said on stick-to-football. “If they’re going to change[the manager]again, it’s probably going to be today or tomorrow. They’re not going to wait. In my opinion, they’re going to make changes and just keep happening. I think that’s going to happen.”
Alan Shearer – Liverpool win
Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer has suggested an easy walk to three points for the Anfield outfit. He told Betfair: “I have no confidence in Spurs at all, so it’s a home win for Liverpool. It could be tricky. We don’t know what will happen at Anfield, but if Liverpool score early, Spurs could capitulate.”
“We know the size of the game for Tottenham, Liverpool have an important game against Galatasaray and we have to get through it and win, but the size of this game for Tottenham is unbelievable. There is no belief or confidence that they will go there and win. Liverpool will win.”
Tim Sherwood – Draw
In an interview with NewBettingOffers, the former Spurs caretaker manager insisted that if Spurs defend well they can pick up a point or more at Anfield.
He said: “Liverpool have never been great, but Anfield is never an easy place for Tottenham. Historically, even at the best of times, Anfield is a terrible place for them.”
“They need to go there and frustrate the home crowd who need points to qualify for the Champions League and organize well with a counter-attacking threat.
“Hopefully they can probably score something from a set-piece or a quick counter-attack and then they can grab something and force us to fight hard, dig in and defend the box like every team at the bottom of the table has to do.”
