Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has been told by Daniel Levy that if the former Spurs president was still in power, he would have been an option to take over to save the club from relegation.
Daniel Levy would have tried to persuade Harry Redknapp to play in the final game of the season to save Tottenham from relegation had he still been in the North London squad.
This comes from Redknapp himself, who said he spoke to the former Spurs chairman last week about the club’s current predicament. Levy held the reins at the club for more than 20 years before stepping down in September.
Tottenham are currently embroiled in a relegation battle after suffering another disastrous defeat in the Premier League. Concerns over their top-flight status are growing after the club’s decision to replace struggling Thomas Frank with Igor Tudor failed to improve their results. The Croatian lost all four of his matches, and his morale and performance plummeted.
Tudor’s position is already under serious threat, with Mr Redknapp, 79, being touted by fans as one of the options to parachute in.

The former Spurs manager has played down that possibility, but revealed Levy would have tried to bring him in if he were still at the club. “The funny thing is, I got a call from Daniel last week,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.
“I think I spoke to him once after I left home a long time ago, but I was in the car last week and suddenly I got a call and it was Daniel Levy.
“I thought, ‘That’s weird,’ and I was on the phone with him for about 30 minutes talking to him, and he was explaining what happened to him and how he got kicked out of there, and it was really weird.
“And he said to me, ‘If I were there right now, I wouldn’t just say, I’d keep you back until the end of the season, Harry.’ So that would have been interesting.”
It appears Levy will try to keep Redknapp on board until the end of the season, but Levy himself has said he does not expect to hear from Tottenham’s current hierarchy.
While Redknapp has been largely absent, Jurgen Klinsmann, another popular figure from the club’s past, has expressed interest in answering the SOS call.
He told ESPN: “Who wouldn’t want this job? It’s Tottenham. Whoever you pick, you need someone who can emotionally connect with everyone, who knows the club, feels the club, feels the people. Because to get out of this mess they need to develop a fighting spirit. They need to develop a fighting spirit that’s really unpleasant and ugly, but it’s only beyond emotion.”
“So you don’t need to bring in a mastermind for tactical things or anything like that. You need someone to get everyone on board and keep the game going in a positive direction and make sure everyone understands the fact that we’re on the verge of losing the championship.”
