Igor Tudor has turned out to be a disaster for Tottenham – and not sacking him now would be unfathomable

Tottenham’s rot began last summer with the board’s decision to sack Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou, despite the Australians winning the Europa League.

Atlético de Madrid vs. Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 round of 16 first leg played at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano in Madrid, Spain on March 10, 2026. Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Igor Tudor looked disappointed after Atlético de Madrid's Julian Alvarez (not pictured) scored his team's fifth goal in the match against Hotspur FC.

Igor Tudor loses all four games as Tottenham Hotspur manager

The only thing stranger than Igor Tudor’s appointment is the fact that he is still at Tottenham Hotspur. It was an unfathomable decision to parachute in at the turning point of Spurs’ Premier League season as a coach taking up his 12th job in 11 years – a coach with a long but unimpressive career and no experience in English club football.

Even more puzzling is that this surreal cameo lasted four games and appears to have been extended further. If there’s one inescapable conclusion from the Madrid defeat, it’s that whoever could be a potential replacement cannot do worse than the Croatian.

Yes, it was that dire. And the disaster began when Daniel Levy sacked Ange Postecoglou, simple as that.

Revisionism? Quite possible. But he was a manager who had just won a big trophy. He was a coach who never lost the confidence and trust of his players.

He was a manager who was not disliked by most fans. Yes, the bottom three teams were formidable, but Postecoglou’s Spurs had 34 points from 29 games last season and were safe for a long time at this stage.

Tudor’s Spurs have 29 points from 29 games and after the visit to Anfield they will have 29 points from 30 games. Postecoglou’s win rate as Tottenham manager was 46.5 per cent, not spectacular but not too shabby either.

Harry Redknapp says he would be happy to do a short-term job at Spurs before they appoint Igor Tudor

Of course, Levy is no longer involved in Spurs’ decision-making process, but Vina Venkatesham is. And in appointing Mr. Frank, the CEO said:

“We have defined 10 characteristics that we believe are important to be a successful manager at Tottenham Hotspur. We have analyzed over 30 candidates in detail through our technical staff.”

Did they do the same thing when they knew they were going to get rid of Frank? Frankly, they don’t seem to have any idea what they’re doing.

Certainly, a good technical staff will identify a coach, even an interim one, who can at least introduce some defensive structure. Under Tudor, the team scored 5 goals and conceded 14 goals. Any good chief executive will understand that motivation plays a part in the Premier League’s current relegation battle.

When former professionals were lining up to suggest that Harry Redknapp should replace Frank after his sacking, I thought the idea was laughable. I love Harry, but he was almost 79 years old.

I then spent some time with Redknapp at the Ben Poling stable. So the Jukebox Man was preparing for Friday’s crack at the Cheltenham Gold Cup. And seriously, I came away knowing that Harry would do a better job than Tudor.

The Jukebox Man has every chance of giving Redknapp a memorable day, but the chances of him giving Spurs a memorable return are slim to none. But he would still be a better bet than Tudor.
