Arsenal will face Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals, but they know a win will take them back to Wembley after managing to draw against their Championship rivals.
Port Vale were the talk of the town heading into Monday night’s FA Cup quarter-final draw, with an impressive giant-killing display against Sunderland rewarded with a trip to Chelsea.
However, the big winners of the draw were Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, who avoided opponents Liverpool and Manchester City and drew away at Southampton.
The Gunners are still fighting on all four fronts and have a chance to lift their first trophy of the season when they face Josep Guardiola’s side in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley later this month.
And considering they have a comfortable advantage at the Premier League summit, they look like a pretty good bet to finally end their 20-plus year wait for a domestic title.

So can they actually win the quadruple this year? As ambitious as it may seem, the FA Cup has been very kind to them both this year and historically.
No team has won the world’s most famous finals tournament more often than Arsenal, who have won the FA Cup 14 times. The trip to Southampton, which is just outside the Championship play-offs, will have no fear of Arteta’s accusations.
If we win against the Saints we will advance to the semi-finals and of course return to Wembley. As a matter of fact, a potential route to the National Stadium could not have been better if Arteta himself had been given the chance to plan it.
They have yet to play a Premier League team, defeating Portsmouth in the third round and then defeating League One side Wigan Athletic.
Mansfield Town gave the Gunners a scare at the weekend, but they were also third-tier opponents.
With Port Vale and Southampton the only teams outside of the top flight remaining in cup competition, Arsenal’s run of form will surely come to an end. But at the semi-final stage, it’s anyone’s game anyway. And by then, Arsenal may already be on their way to making history.
