Manchester City’s hopes of winning the Premier League title again this season are fading, but Josep Guardiola believes they can be firmly in contention for the title next season.
Pep Guardiola has promised Manchester City will be “even better” next season in a clear hint about his future. City’s title hopes are fading towards the end of the season.
Guardiola’s side are second in the table but were unable to beat Nottingham Forest in midweek, leaving them seven points behind Arsenal, although they still have a game in hand. Speculation about Guardiola’s future has been a hot topic throughout the campaign.
He still has just over a year left on his current contract, but there have been hints that he could end up leaving the club this summer.
The Spaniard then opened up about City’s problems this season and promised to improve next season. “We’re not a complete team enough to compete solidly, that’s the reality, but we are in the process of a lot of changes,” he said.

“If we can learn faster and still not lose anything, we will arrive with a chance in the last month.
“But I’m sure next season will be better. Next season will be better. I have no doubts about that.”
And while Guardiola seems keen to help City achieve further success, he wasn’t afraid to air one of his main complaints by taking aim at the FA and Premier League schedule. City are due to play Newcastle in the FA Cup just days after their draw with Nottingham Forest.
“Here in England, what happened in the Carabao Cup is more important for the English team than the Champions League game,” Guardiola added. “It’s been happening since day one, so it’s no surprise.
“The schedule is decided by the broadcaster, because we’re paying a lot of money. Okay, well done, you got a lot of money. Thank you very much. You’re very kind. That’s it.”
After the FA Cup match against Newcastle, City turned their attention back to Champions League action, with the team once again set to face Spanish giants Real Madrid in the last 16. City will then travel to West Ham next weekend to make another bid for the Premier League title.
Regarding the FA Cup, Guardiola said: “How many finals and semi-finals have we been to in the last few years? There are many. The FA Cup is very important so we will go to Newcastle to get to the next round.”
