Manchester United are looking to strengthen their attacking options in the summer transfer window, with AFC Bournemouth’s Marcus Tavernier being one of the players to keep an eye on.
Marcus Tavernier is claimed to be one of the players Manchester United could target to sign a new left-winger this summer.
The Red Devils don’t place much emphasis on wide players, with Ruben Amorim preferring to play with wing-backs. However, United have changed shape and improved significantly since under Michael Carrick, who ditched Amorim’s favored three-back system, and are expected to add to their wide attacking ranks in the summer.
The Mail reports that 26-year-old Tavernier is one of the players selected by scouts as part of United’s shortlist, along with Morgan Gibbs-White and Yann Diomande.
Tavernier has established himself as a key player for Bournemouth in recent years, scoring six goals and providing four assists this season, including his goal in the dramatic 4-4 draw between the Cherries and United at Old Trafford in December. His form has attracted interest from other parts of the Premier League, with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest also fans.

And while it has been claimed that Bournemouth could be open to a sale to raise funds for his signing, the fact that Tavernier’s contract runs until 2029 means it would likely cost more than £40m to lure him away from the south coast side.
As well as a left-sided attacker, United are in the market for two new central midfielders this summer, but could also look to strengthen their left-back and central defence. They are expected to monitor all potential targets until the end of the season and then decide on next steps, including appointing a new head coach.
Despite losing his first game since replacing Amorim against Newcastle in midweek in January, Carrick has now been named in a squad fighting for a top-four finish, significantly increasing his chances of landing the full-time job.
Asked earlier this week if he thought he was going to lose the job, he admitted he had been planning ahead in case he was hired full-time. “This will be weekly, right?” said Carrick.
“Of course, you can’t escape this situation. To be honest, there’s not much I can say about it. I love being here. I love doing what I’m doing. I’ve said it from the beginning, I’m not making decisions looking for short-term or quick-fix solutions.”
“If I’m here for a long time, I think it’s my responsibility to make the decisions that are best for the football club in the long term. Of course it helps to win games and the players have done well with that. We’ll have to see how it ends.”
