Harry Kane has scored an astonishing 30 goals in just 24 Bundesliga games this season, but his chances of breaking Robert Lewandowski’s record have been ended by injury.
Harry Kane will miss Bayern Munich’s game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday, leaving him with one game less to break Robert Lewandowski’s scoring record. England captain Kane has already scored 30 goals in the Bundesliga this season, playing in all 24 of Bayern’s games.
However, the striker missed Friday’s game due to a calf injury. “He has bruised his calf and has not recovered yet,” Bayern coach Vincent Kompany confirmed at the pre-match press conference.
“It’s not serious at the moment, but he might need another day to get involved. We’re pretty relaxed. Of course we wanted Harry to be involved, but these things happen.”
Kane, 32, will be aiming to feature in Bayern’s Champions League round of 16 first leg away to Atalanta on Tuesday. The German champions return to Bundesliga action at Bayer Leverkusen next Saturday.

If Kane is available to play against Leverkusen, he will have nine games left to break Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a Bundesliga season. The current Barcelona star played 29 games that season, breaking Gerd Muller’s long-held record of 40 goals on the final day of the 2020-21 season.
In a recent interview, Lewandowski praised Kane’s form but joked that he would have scored more goals had he not suffered an injury in March 2021. “Harry Kane always scores a lot of goals, he’s playing really well and he’s doing a great job,” the 37-year-old told Sky Sports.
“And now that I have achieved this in 29 games…I can only imagine that if I play 34 games, I can score even more!” Lewandowski laughed: “Thanks to him, I can be even more proud of my record!”

Kane is the favorite to replace Lewandowski, whose contract with the Pole and Barcelona expires in June. However, although Lewandowski has received a lucrative offer from MLS club Chicago Fire, he has not ruled out extending his stay for another four years.
“The good thing is there’s no pressure,” he added. “When I’m 30 or a few years (younger), this feeling will change. ‘I want to see where I play.’ But at the moment I don’t need to know. I have the patience.”
“It takes me about three months to decide what I want to do. It’s just me.”
