Filipe Luis had an incredible run at Flamengo, but the young manager was sacked after reports he had met with Chelsea’s leaders without the Brazilian club’s knowledge.
Filipe Luis’s shock sacking at Flamengo came after the club’s leadership learned he had held talks with Chelsea’s owners.
The Brazilian, who briefly played for the Blues, quickly took over as manager and went on to do wonders in his homeland, but that didn’t stop him from being sacked. In September 2024, he replaced former Brazil national team coach Tite and led Flamengo to seven titles.
He recently watched his team beat Madureira 8-0 and reach the Carioca final, where they will face Fluminense, but Luis will be given his marching orders and no longer in charge.
Flamengo president Luis Eduardo Baptista, also known as Vap, sacked Luiz in the early hours of Tuesday following the match after it emerged that Luiz had been secretly negotiating with Chelsea.
UOL Esporte claim that the breakdown in Luiz’s relationship with Baptista was due to discussions between Luiz and Chelsea’s owner Bruco, who was negotiating a move to Strasbourg, another club in their portfolio.

Ruiz’s stellar results were not enough to save him, with the Flamengo president feeling “deceived” and “further rifting an already fractious relationship,” it was reported in Brazil.
The former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid defender has built a great body of work for himself and looks like he will be in demand in the future. The Blues have recently undergone a managerial change, sacking manager Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day, which was thought internally to be a motivating factor. The Italian was replaced by Liam Rosenior, who had impressed in Strasbourg despite lacking experience at the top level.
Chelsea’s current ownership has gone through a number of managers since their takeover. They took over Thomas Tuchel but within a few months he left and Graham Potter was brought in as his replacement, but the former Brighton manager was unable to continue the season.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino took over just a year after Maresca’s performance at Leicester, with him expected to return to replace the Argentine. Maresca’s own tenure is 18 months, meaning BlueCo has worked with five different managers over the past four years.
