Benjamin Sesco wasn’t the biggest or most glamorous signing last summer, but if he hits rich form he could prove to be the best.
Benjamin Sesko took a while to get off the ground. But now it seems very difficult to stop him. That’s why the Manchester United striker could prove to be the best of the big-money centre-forwards signed last summer.
Sesco is 22 years old and looks raw, but he has a lot of potential and great attributes, including speed, power and great ability in the air.
If you compare him to the likes of Victor Gokeres, Alexander Isak, João Pedro and Hugo Ekitike, he was never the most expensive or the greatest player.
Arsenal had been tracking Gokeres for so long before signing him that it almost felt like an afterthought when he went to Old Trafford.
However, at £74 million, he definitely has the most potential, although considering his age he still has many years and time to develop.

Joao Pedro looks like a very good player for Chelsea, as he has speed, movement and is smart enough to play in a variety of roles. He can play as a centre-forward, wide and as a number 10. He seems real.
Ekitike has scored 15 goals in all competitions and one of the best things about him is his mentality and determination to fight for his place even after Alexander Isak arrived at Liverpool in search of more money.
Gökeres is at least scoring goals now and was named Arsenal’s Player of the Month for January, but at just 27 he’s unlikely to get any faster and it’s hard to imagine him improving too much.
Mikel Arteta could be seen screaming as Gokeres continued down the left channel, one-on-one with Trevo Chalobá, but didn’t have the speed or guile to get past him.

Sesco now has eight goals and is starting to make more than his mark in the team with his powerful header against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
A lot of clubs took notice. Newcastle wanted to sign him. Arsenal pursued him for over a year, but ignored the data and recommended signing Gokeres over Sesco based on current judgment. Because he is ready.
But Sesco has already shown he is ready. He may continue to be United’s star for the rest of the decade, but he will eventually prove people wrong.
Sesco has the physicality to rival Erling Haaland, and while he’s not quite in that league yet, he has the potential to become a big star. He has all the ingredients.
For any striker, the right time, the right manager and the right opportunity are always important. And great luck too.
Initially, it didn’t look good for Sesco under manager Michael Carrick. However, considering his speed and decision-making ability, it was inevitable that he would start in the starting lineup after starring and scoring goals as a super sub.
Now, given the right opportunity, Sesco is on the verge of a big opportunity. And that could make him the best striker signed last summer.
