Rodrigo was injured in Monday’s match between Real Madrid and Getafe, tearing both his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus, despite continuing to play until full time.
Real Madrid star Rodrygo has suffered a serious injury to his anterior cruciate ligament, which means he will not be able to play for Brazil at the World Cup. Rodrygo, 25, described it as “one of the worst days of my life” after learning his season was over.
The winger tore both the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right foot during Real’s 1-0 home defeat to Getafe on Monday. Rodrygo was introduced as a substitute in the second half of the La Liga match.
It was the Brazilian’s first appearance since coming on as a second-half substitute for Real in early February. Rodrigo’s leg appeared to buckle as he scrambled for the ball with Getafe’s Adrian Riso on the touchline.
Rodrigo played in the remainder of Real’s loss, but the injury proved to be serious. “One of the worst days of my life. How scared I was of this injury,” the 25-year-old posted on Instagram.

“Maybe life has been a little cruel to me lately. I don’t know if I deserve this, but what can I complain about? How many wonderful things have I experienced that I don’t even deserve?”
Rodrigo added: “My life and career have experienced major disruptions that have prevented me from doing what I love most for a period of time.
“I will miss the rest of the season with the club and will also miss out on the World Cup in my home country. We all know how much this dream means to me and all I can do is be strong as always, this is nothing new.

“Although these are very difficult times, I promise that I will not stop here. I believe that I still have so many incredible things to experience and that I can bring joy to everyone who trusts in me.”
The forward made five appearances for Brazil during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was expected to be called up by manager Carlo Ancelotti for this year’s tournament. Brazil will face Morocco, Scotland and Haiti in Group C.
Brazil could become England’s quarter-final opponents if both teams advance through their respective groups and reach the last 32 and round of 16. The World Cup begins on Thursday, June 11th, with co-hosts Mexico and South Africa playing against each other.
