Michael Carrick led Manchester United to six wins in seven games after the Red Devils came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Michael Carrick led Manchester United to yet another victory, equaling the Premier League record. The Red Devils extended Carrick’s honeymoon with a 2-1 home win against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The 44-year-old was appointed on an interim basis after United sacked Ruben Amorim in January. Carrick was a United legend during his playing days, scoring impressive wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
The Red Devils followed up that result with wins against Fulham and Tottenham, but a draw against West Ham threatened to halt their momentum. But United are back on winning ways by defeating Everton on Monday and now Palace.
But this is not Carrick’s first time managing United. The former Middlesbrough manager briefly took charge in 2021 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, managing three games. Two of those games were in the Premier League, with Carrick’s side winning a 1-1 away draw with Chelsea before defeating Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Combining the two magic spells has given Carrick the best start to his career after nine games by any manager in Premier League history. In total, United picked up 23 of the 27 points available under the former England international.
Carrick’s undeniable influence makes him the favorite to become Amorim’s permanent successor at the end of this season. United have only been behind three times under Carrick, with Palace’s fourth-minute opener on Sunday marking the first time they have been behind at home.
However, goals from Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesco brought United back in the second half, moving them into third place and on course to qualify for the Champions League. Carrick admitted after the game that he had been “waiting” for the moment when his players had to deal with adversity.

“Sometimes you have to find a way in the game,” he explained. “We wanted to score more points and be a little more aggressive by attacking the opposition’s backline. We always try to do that, but I thought we did better in the second half, but we ended up getting a penalty from there.”
“It was more about how we reacted. It was going in our favor and we were waiting for this moment to think, ‘Okay, what do we do?'” The boys always reacted really well. That was a big thing for us. ”
United’s next game is away to Newcastle on Wednesday. Carrick grew up supporting the Magpies as a local team, but has yet to play against them. A win would set the Red Devils up well for next weekend’s big clash against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on March 15, after the Premier League was suspended for the FA Cup.
