Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty before leaving the pitch injured in Al Nasr’s 3-1 win at the weekend, but the next match was called off due to continued air strikes.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nasr’s Asian Champions League 2 quarter-final match against Al Wasl has been postponed due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. This comes after US President Donald Trump launched an operation against Iran over the weekend.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in a US and Israeli airstrike. The attack had a ripple effect, with Iran responding with attacks on US and Israeli military bases in the Middle East.
In response, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed the postponement of matches scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, including the Champions League round of 16. The Asian Champions League 2 quarter-finals, scheduled to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, have also been postponed, with Al Nasr also affected.

The Saudi side was scheduled to play UAE club Al Wasl in the quarter-finals in Dubai. However, the rescheduled date has not yet been confirmed and it will not take place.
“In view of the developments in the situation in the Middle East, the Asian Football Confederation has confirmed that the AFC Champions League Elite 2025/26 Round of 16 first leg in the Western Region, originally scheduled for March 2-3, 2026, will be rescheduled,” AFC said in a statement.
“Furthermore, the AFC Champions League 2 and AFC Challenge League quarter-final first leg matches involving teams from the Western Region, originally scheduled to be played on March 3-4, 2026, have been postponed until further notice.
“All AFC club competitions involving East Division clubs will continue as originally scheduled.
“AFC will continue to closely monitor this rapidly evolving situation and remain steadfast in ensuring the safety and security of all players, teams, officials and fans.”
This comes as Ronaldo, Al Nasr and the Portuguese are all busy working on his fitness after picking up an injury in the club’s 3-1 win against Al Fahiya on Saturday. The forward signaled to the bench before being substituted in the 81st minute.
After the match, Al Nasr coach Jorge Jesus gave an update on Ronaldo, who had an ice pack attached to the back of his knee. “Ronaldo is suffering from muscle fatigue and medical staff will urgently carry out the necessary tests to determine his condition,” he told reporters.
Ronaldo’s withdrawal came after he missed a penalty kick early in the match. The postponement of the game could give him more time to recover.
Matches in the east of the region, including Gamba Asaka vs. Eachaburi FC and Bangkok United vs. Tampines Rovers, are expected to go ahead as scheduled.
