West Ham United announce huge losses in latest financial results, with the club also facing relegation from the Premier League this season
West Ham United have admitted they will have to sell players this summer even if they avoid relegation from the Premier League. The Hammers revealed they made a loss of £104.2m in the last financial year.
The figures released by West Ham mark a dramatic change from the previous financial year’s £57.2m profit. The club announced that revenue fell by £42.1m to £227.6m due to a lower league finish, fewer televised matches, the absence of European football and lower profits from player sales.
The east London club said its latest accounts show it is expected to be short on cash this summer even if it avoids relegation from English football’s top flight. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team currently sit in the final Premier League relegation position (18th), two points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest with 11 games remaining.

And West Ham admitted in a board report to shareholders that a sale would be necessary in the summer. They added that shareholders need to provide more capital.

The club said: “Under both the base case and severe but plausible case projections, mitigating measures are necessary to ensure the group has sufficient liquidity to repay its debt over its going concern period.”
The report added: “The main relief under group administration will be the receipt of cash from further transactions of players. If this is undesirable or insufficient, additional funding from shareholders will be required.”
“If a severe but plausible scenario occurs, the Group expects the liquidity shortfall to become even more severe in the summer of 2026. Therefore, more significant mitigating measures will be required, such as further player disposals to generate transfer income and wage savings, additional funding from shareholders, or a combination thereof.”

West Ham signed five players in the January transfer window in a bid to avoid being dropped. The Hammers have signed forwards Pablo, Valentin Castellanos and Adama Traore, as well as defender Axel Disasi.
Nuno’s side could move out of the relegation zone on Saturday if they win against Liverpool (3pm kick-off) before Forest travel to Brighton on Sunday afternoon. And Nuno issued a warning to his relegation rivals ahead of West Ham’s trip to Anfield.
“We know it’s going to be a tough situation. Going to Anfield is always difficult but at the same time it’s a big challenge for us. We’ll be up against a great team with talented players and we can only get the best out of us,” he said.
“That’s our main motivation, to understand that we have to keep chasing, chasing, chasing. This is the reality. It’s been going on for a while. We’re in a fight.”
