Liverpool youngster Trent Corn-Doherty has completed a surprise permanent move to Norwegian club Molde in a deal worth £660,000, including a buy-back and sell-on clause.
Liverpool talent Trent Corn-Doherty has completed a surprise move to Norwegian club Molde.
Cone-Doherty, 19, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season, opted not to renew his contract at Anfield but to pursue the possibility of more regular action with the first team.
Although the amount was not disclosed, the deal is thought to be worth €750,000 (£660,000), with Liverpool also securing a substantial sell-on clause and an option to buy.
Kone-Doherty’s move to Molde comes around 12 months after Liverpool decided to sell Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in order to earn a signing bonus before his contract expired. The Reds released Alexander-Arnold to Los Blancos for £10 million on June 1, 2025, just 30 days before his contract expired.

The move to the Norwegian club took four months until the young star’s contract expired, while Alexander-Arnold’s contract expired less than a month later, and Liverpool managed to reap the rewards for his services.
Kone-Doherty, who has attracted interest from several clubs, is now available as the transfer window opens ahead of the start of Norway’s domestic league next month. Last year, Molde finished 10th in the 16-team Eliteserien.
The winger, who will celebrate his 20th birthday in June, joined Liverpool from Derry City in the summer of 2022 and rose through the academy ranks, playing for the Under-18s and Under-21s, while also appearing regularly in the UEFA Youth League, FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was on the bench in the Champions League defeat against PSV Eindhoven in January 2025, but made his senior debut for the Reds the following month when he came on as a substitute in the FA Cup fourth round defeat against Plymouth Argyle.
Kone-Doherty also came on as a substitute in the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield in October.

Liverpool were happy to approve the transfer, considering the promotion of another young winger, Rio Ngmoha, into the first team, while also securing a route for 15-year-old Josh Abe, who is currently training with the first team.
Ben Gannon-Doak, another academy winger with first-team experience at Liverpool, was sold to Bournemouth for £25m in the summer.
