Rumors of Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool have increased in recent months in light of his outburst in December, and Emile Heskey has several players he would like to replace the Egyptian.
Former Liverpool star Emile Heskey has named Mohamed Salah’s replacement, saying PSG ace Hviča Kvaratskhelia “will be my go-to”.
The Egyptian signed a two-year deal to stay at Anfield in the summer but is now in his 30s and this season has shown the first signs of decline. His outbursts midway through the season fueled speculation that this would be his last season in the Premier League.
Salah has been prolific for Liverpool and is now regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, but the club will need to find a replacement for him sooner or later. His contributions this season have been modest compared to previous years, but he will still leave a big hole.
Kvaratschelia played a big role in Paris and contributed to last season’s Champions League victory, but he only moved from Napoli about a year ago. Heskey considers him the ideal replacement, with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen also on his wishlist.
He told OLBG: “We are talking about replacing Mohamed Salah, but as a fan I think we should look at something else because we can’t replace Mo Salah. One season Mo had a bad season. I remember talking to someone who was scoring 25 goals! I wish I had a season that bad too. We’re talking about a player who has been scoring over 20 goals a season for 10 years, almost 30 goals a season.”

“I don’t think you’ll replace Mo Salah, but I like the PSG player, Hviča Kvaratschelia. He will be my go-to. Will Jarrod Bowen be a downgrade from Mohamed Salah? I think most players are a downgrade compared to Salah, but to be honest Bowen is a different type of player and he’s going to work a little harder than Mo, so he’ll probably help the formation.”
Heskey has also named Christian Pulisic as a potential target despite his lack of consistent performances for Chelsea. Although he enjoyed some impressive moments, the Blues are keen to move him on, with AC Milan now favorites to sign him. The former Red believes Pulisic is determined to prove he can work in England.
“I actually really like Christian Pulisic,” Heskey said. “He’s very direct. He may not have scored as many goals as I would have liked at Chelsea, but I think he caused problems for the defense. “He’s definitely a player who can offer something different to Mohamed Salah or Kodi Gakpo at the moment, who are under pressure at home after obviously a good World Cup.
“Mo left Chelsea to go to Italy and see what he did at Liverpool. I think it’s great to see a player like Pulisic come back to the Premier League the same way. I think he wants to show that his time at Chelsea was just a blip. He was still a youngster when he came here.”
