National League North side King’s Lynn Town are under investigation after their game against South Shields was postponed due to a flooded pitch earlier this month.
King’s Lynn Town are being investigated by the National League after the club allegedly used sprinklers on the pitch hours before the match was postponed due to flooding.
The match scheduled for February 14th between Norfolk and South Shields, who are currently 19th in the National League North and in a relegation battle, was called off due to heavy rain. However, it has been revealed that an investigation is currently underway into the circumstances surrounding the postponement.
The Times reported that an image of CCTV footage was shared anonymously showing sprinklers being used on the pitch, which had already been hit by heavy rain. The timestamp indicates that the footage was shot the day before the game was scheduled to take place, hours before the game was actually called off.
They added that the National League had contacted King’s Lynn, who were hit by injury and illness in the run-up to the game against South Shields, and requested access to the video.

A league spokesperson confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, telling the magazine, “The National League is aware of the allegations and is conducting an investigation.”
The match between both clubs has been rescheduled for Tuesday 17th March, meaning South Shields will have to travel from the North East to Norfolk in midweek.
King’s Lynn’s only comment after the game was canceled was to confirm the schedule change, saying: “We can confirm that our previously postponed home game against South Shields (H) has been rescheduled for Tuesday 17th March at 7.45pm kick-off.”
South Shields chairman Geoff Thompson told the BBC: “We are aware that this matter is being investigated by the National League.
“We also saw evidence that the sprinkler system had been operating for a significant period of time prior to the referee’s pitch inspection. This inspection was hosted by the KLTFC groundsman and conducted remotely via telephone with the match referee.”
