Everton 0-1 Manchester United: Benjamin Sesco was the winner again for Michael Carrick. Carrick has won five games since Ruben Amorim took over as head coach.
Angry celebrations have been in vogue for some time, but even by modern standards Benjamin Sesco’s effort in front of traveling supporters was admirable.
It was a message as loud as an air punch to Michael Carrick. Any chance to start now, boss?
The manager’s argument may be that Sesco has proven to be a first-rate, impactful substitute, with United winning five of the six games in which Carrick was in charge. But the £74m substitute’s late winner was another convincing element of his argument that he deserved to start.
But you wouldn’t blame Carrick for not wanting to change. After all, his revolution was hardly revolutionary. It was simply as wise as himself.

Stick with round pegs, round holes, what works, and no need for rotations with a schedule that allows players to take time off between games.
The comfort zone is a bigger threat to Carrick’s plans than the red zone. If they can all stay healthy, he could potentially start in the same eleven for every remaining game this season.
As it happens, Lisandro Martinez had to miss this game, but it won’t be an overly tough defensive test for United after manager David Moyes decided to deploy James Garner, one of his most creative players, at right-back.
This is not the only unusual player the Everton manager has selected for his full-back position, with Jarrad Branthwaite also having a prestigious role on the left.
To be fair, this slightly unusual set-up didn’t work all that badly, but United’s limited threat was more due to the continued absence of a true central striker in the starting XI. Also called Sesco.
And Tierno Barry took little joy in his solo duties, with a first half without any significant action in the penalty area.
United’s lack of attacking threat was quite surprising and Carrick must have wanted to be substituted at the interval but somehow resisted. It was understandable that Moyes chose to use the same eleven at the start of the second half, but the end result was rather mediocre.
And within an hour, Carrick had had enough and called for Sesco.
By then, it was clear that Moyes would be content with a team focused solely on counter-attacking, even though the team had perhaps the most inventive player on the pitch in Iliman Ndiaye. he’s really talented. Everton shouldn’t be a selling club, but it will be very difficult to keep the Senegalese player.
His smart runs and passes created a chance for Keenan Dewsbury-Hall that was wasted, but gave the home side a rare attacking momentum. However, it turned out to be a disaster for Everton.
Due to the concentration of players up front, the back was unusually short, and a brilliant pass from Matheus Cunha exploited the lack of players. Mbeumo received the long pass well and assisted Sesco’s pass with a simple but very clever assist.
This was a combination of three of the summer’s biggest signings to create a fantastic counter-attacking goal as you can see.
And with Carrick’s buzz ringing in, United fans will be looking forward to more of this pairing.
