Alexis Mac Allister’s late goal helped Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest and breathe new life into their bid to qualify for the Champions League, but the Argentine has been under fire ever since.
Alexis Mac Allister is said to have had the “worst game” of his Liverpool career against Nottingham Forest, despite scoring a late goal. The Argentine midfielder became a hero for the Reds after scoring in stoppage time at Anfield.
His goal came just minutes after he saw another goal canceled by VAR. While Mac Allister has proven to be crucial for Liverpool, he has been criticized for his performances by former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf.
In an interview with ESPN, he said: “Life is unfair sometimes, when you look at how badly some players have done. I think highly of the player I’m going to mention, Mac Allister.”
“I think he’s a world-class player, a World Cup champion. He’s been a very influential player since he came to Liverpool, but (Sunday) was the worst game I’ve ever seen Mac Allister (play). But he scored a goal. That’s why football isn’t fair to me.”

Mac Allister’s goal against Forest was his first in the Premier League this season, but he has three other goals in Europe. Asked about the midfielder’s form, Liverpool manager Arne Slott said: “I think what he needed was what he showed in the last six, seven, eight games. A series of games where he is getting back to his normal level, which he showed many times last season.”
“And he had that level in the first half of the season, but there were some ups and downs, just like there were ups and downs in the team’s performance.
“But lately we’ve been seeing more consistency, not only in Macca’s performance, but also in the team’s performance and the performance of a lot of individuals. But I think it’s always great when players score, especially when you score in extra time in extra time.”

Mac Allister said this after scoring the winning goal against Forest. Asked if the ball touched his arm before the canceled goal, he said: “It did, but it was harsh. It hit my back too. I understand the rules, but this is soccer and it’s very harsh.”
Regarding the eventual winning goal, the Argentine midfielder added: “We knew we would get another (chance). I told Hugo (Ekitike) before the throw-in that it would be our situation. But we had another chance and I’m glad we took it.”
