Milner started for the Seagulls at the G-Tech Community Stadium, making his 654th top-flight appearance, surpassing the record jointly held by Gareth Barry.
It’s been more than 23 years since Milner made his Leeds United debut at the age of 16, with the midfielder also having spells at Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Milner had even more reason to celebrate as his team won their first league game in seven games.
Diego Gomes took the lead after the half-hour mark with a rebound, and just before half-time Danny Welbeck extended the visitors’ lead to two points from close range.
The win moves Brighton into 12th place, ahead of Crystal Palace and Fulham, while Brentford remain in seventh place.
Burnley take points against 10-man Chelsea
Jeanne Fleming’s 93rd-minute goal gave Burnley a point at Stamford Bridge as 10-man Chelsea took another lead at home.
The Blues took the lead within four minutes when Pedro Neto’s low cross into the box found João Pedro, who slotted home from close range.
Liam Rosenior’s side were in the ascendancy until the 72nd minute, when Wesley Fofana received a second yellow card, forcing the Blues to play the final 20 minutes with 10 men.
Burnley pressed for an equalizer and took advantage of an extra man in stoppage time when Fleming headed home James Ward-Prowse’s corner kick.
Chelsea have moved up to fourth on points, but are only ahead of Manchester United on goal difference, with Michael Carrick’s side able to move three points clear of the Blues with a win against Everton on Monday.
This will be the second successive league game in which Chelsea have taken the lead at home, having built up a 2-0 advantage in their last game against Leeds before being held to a 2-2 draw.
Following last week’s win against Crystal Palace, Scott Parker’s side have closed the gap on 17th-placed Nottingham Forest to eight points.

Villa Salvage draw with Leeds, Abraham unleashes late attack
Aston Villa came from behind to win against Leeds United, with Tammy Abraham scoring the equalizer in the 88th minute.
Anton Stach gave the visitors the lead in the opening period with a sensational free kick from 30 yards out.
But two minutes into the game, Abraham scored his first league goal since returning to Villa in January, knocking down Ezri Konsa with a knee kick from close range.
Leeds remain in 15th place.
