Michael Carrick has held the Manchester United job until the end of the season, but revealed he loves the role before making a big decision in the summer
Michael Carrick has declared that being Manchester United manager is the “ultimate role”, but club leaders are currently planning to appoint him until the summer and have not decided how long he will stay in the job.
The former Red Devils player was given the reins until the end of the season following the sacking of manager Ruben Amorim. The club’s plan was to pursue their long-term manager in the summer and Carrick has put together an excellent job.
United had struggled before his arrival, but the 44-year-old has won four straight games since his arrival, including wins against Manchester City at Old Trafford and away to Arsenal.
The Red Devils have been linked with the likes of Oliver Glasner and Marco Silva, but Carrick is becoming a difficult figure to ignore. The club confirmed his appointment in a statement last month, stressing that his position will last until the end of the season. But Carrick revealed he has his dream job.
He said, “It’s not a standard answer. For me, it’s the ultimate role. I really enjoy it and I love what I do. I’m lucky. I’m honored to be in the position I’m in, but it’s not the fact that I believe I can do it and I’m here to do it.”

“As I said when I joined, there’s also the sentimental side…understanding the role, getting over the club, being here and loving the club and being a supporter, that side is all different. But the fact is, I’m here now to work and to build a good team and be successful.”
“I haven’t decided how long that will be, but I love being here and I’m going to give it my all while I’m here. And I’m always planning for the long-term future for the benefit of the football club, which I believe is the way it should be.”
Carrick is the bookmakers’ favorite to take charge of United ahead of next season. A top-four finish, far ahead of the club at the start of the season when Amorim was in charge, would put the former England international in pole position to win the role.
Carrick had only managed two top-flight games before this spell at United, but those came shortly after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as caretaker manager. His most recent role was managing Middlesbrough in the Championship.
