Carrick leads Manchester United’s signing race
Manchester United’s interim head coach Michael Carrick is a leading candidate to become the permanent manager at Old Trafford, according to iPaper.
Thomas Tuchel, Luis Enrique, Carlo Ancelotti, Roberto De Zerbi and Oliver Glasner have all fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks.
“Thomas Tuchel was one of United’s top picks. The German is more combative than some of the greats would ideally like, but his track record, especially in the short term, has been more than appealing. His new contract with England has removed him from the list.”
“However, sources in Paris have long been adamant that Mr Enrique would sign a new contract in the French capital. It is now understood that a new deal is close to being agreed.”
“Carlo Ancelotti will also commit his future to the Brazilian national team, according to South American sources, with another potential player to be removed from United’s list. The deal is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.”
“There are still other elite coaches who could be approached. Roberto De Zerbi is also a top candidate, but he is understood to be seriously considering the job of Tottenham’s permanent manager, a role he aspires to play.”
“Some United bosses have doubts about Oliver Glasner and fear he is on the same level as Amorim when he was appointed.”
Chelsea trio could earn new contracts
Enzo Fernandes, Moises Caicedo and Levi Colwill could soon be in line for new deals at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea intend to sign new signings to long-term contracts, but an improvement in form could mean they could offer a new deal.
“Fernandes and Caicedo have the same contracts they signed when they joined Chelsea for nine-figure transfers in 2023. Both players have since blossomed into important starters with performances that have justified their huge outlay, with Fernandes becoming vice-captain and Caicedo being named the club’s Player of the Season in 2025.”
“Levi Colwill, whose current contract runs until 2029 and Chelsea retain the option of a one-year extension until 2030, was another player who had established himself as a front-runner for a new contract until August when he tore his left anterior cruciate ligament and prioritized his recovery.
Clubs line up to sign Casemiro
Casemiro is expected to leave Manchester United this summer, with clubs looking to sign the Brazilian.
Inter Miami is one such club, but teams from Porto, Sao Paulo and Saudi Arabia are also keen.
“Miami is one of several clubs considering a move for the former Real Madrid midfielder.
“The five-time Champions League winner has also attracted interest from FC Porto and São Paulo, who he joined as a student before turning professional.
“São Paulo will offer Casemiro a two-year contract with an option to work for the club at the end of his contract.
“Saudi Arabia is also an option and his current form shows he is still capable of playing at a slower tempo.”
Rashford faces pay cut after joining Barça
Marcus Rashford may need to reduce his expected salary to secure a permanent move to Barcelona.
The player is currently on loan at the Spanish champions, but there are reports in Spain that further negotiations may be necessary before he can agree a deal with Manchester United.
“Earlier this month, reports emerged suggesting Manchester United were reconsidering Rashford’s contract after his improved performances have increased his market value.
“He currently earns around £350,000 a week at United and, according to reports in the Spanish media, a modest pay cut will be key to securing a permanent move to Barcelona.”
