Michael Carrick knows he can’t emulate the great Sir Alex Ferguson when it comes to dressing room hustle on Manchester United duty
Michael Carrick has admitted he doesn’t keep the infamous ‘hairdryer treatment’ in his locker like Sir Alex Ferguson once did. Carrick will remain in charge of Manchester United on an interim basis until the end of the season.
Carrick, who has recorded four wins in five games since replacing Ruben Amorim, had no reason to relax. But even if he feels the need to yell at his team, Carrick insists he will never come close to the intensity Fergie once had.
Carrick witnessed Fergie lose his cool many times during his glittering career at Old Trafford. And he said: “Not yet, no (shouted to them).
“There are times when all kinds of emotions arise, and that’s the beauty of being in this position. You have to pick the right time and tap the right kind of buttons to get the right reaction.

“I don’t know if I could recreate that (hair dryer). I wouldn’t do it! I’ve seen it a few times and it makes you sit on the back of your seat and try to keep you away from it.
“But again, you’re talking about Sir Alex, and he was a genius at using people in so many different ways, supporting them, pushing them, sometimes a little harder than pushing them, and getting the most out of them.
“But it worked. It was all about getting the best out of the players.”
Although he may not be able to scold players like his former manager, Carrick rightly credits Sir Alex as being the biggest influence on his managerial career.

He added: “There have been a few times when I’ve done something and then I remember something that happened years ago with another manager or coach. Experience is a great thing that can be used in different ways and that’s life.”
“Listen, Sir Alex has been the biggest influence on me. I think that’s pretty obvious given everything we’ve achieved here. But I think you just learn and know that you don’t have all the answers and you just keep looking for more experiences. That’s why the staff are there to help in that regard.”
Carrick is absolutely delighted to be returning to United and believes it is the ultimate job. He added: “This is the ultimate role. I’m really enjoying it and I love what I do. I’m lucky.”
“I’m honored to be in the position I’m in, but it’s not just the fact that I believe I can do it and I’m here to do it. I haven’t decided how long it will be, but I love being here and I’m going to give it my all while I’m here.”
