After his breathtaking performance against Qarabag, Anthony Gordon took advantage of his media assignment to express his dissatisfaction with some claims regarding his future.
Anthony Gordon has dismissed rumors of him leaving Newcastle United as “rubbish”. Gordon, who has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, scored four goals in the first half against Qarabag in the Champions League.
His dominant performance in front of goal secured a 6-1 away win in Azerbaijan and all but sealed the Magpies’ place in the round of 16. Despite his impressive performance, becoming the fastest English player to score a Champions League hat-trick, Gordon was surprisingly unsatisfied with his performance, claiming he should have scored six goals.
His impressive form follows reports linking him with a move to Arsenal, Manchester United or his boyhood club Liverpool. However, Gordon insists there is no truth to these claims.

When asked about rumors that he was the next big star to graduate from Tyneside, he told Chronicle Live: “What about me? I’ve never met them. What are they saying?”
When asked about his recent involvement with Arsenal and Liverpool, Gordon replied: “It’s the same as always. I think they’re just picking names out of a hat. They’re picking (names out of a hat). I haven’t heard anything. Maybe they want to tell me before they tell (the media).”

Asked if he just wanted to focus on becoming a Newcastle legend, Gordon said: “Of course. I’ve been through enough transfers to know it’s all rubbish.”
Gordon has previously admitted that when rumors of a move to Anfield in the summer of 2024 first emerged, he was intrigued by the prospect. But the mature striker, now 24, was refreshingly candid when talking about his future, sending a clear message to his team-mates.

He said: “I’m focused on myself and the team and I’m focused right now.
“If you think too far into the future, your performance starts to suffer. Trust me, I’ve done it[before]but I’m not going to do it now.”
Gordon now has 10 goals in the Champions League this season and 14 in all competitions this season. Still, he remained frustrated with his lack of scoring, admitting, “Yeah, I should have scored more.”
“We should have scored six goals. We missed two chances to score. I don’t want to say it was easy, but we should have scored. I’m always looking for more goals.”
“I got four points, but I’m that kind of person and I’m not completely satisfied with what I achieved. I should have got six points. Maybe next time.”
Immediately afterwards, Eddie Howe refused to accept that the score was 6-1. Gordon echoed that sentiment, saying: “Even a 6-1 draw never kills us. We’ve all watched enough football and you never know what can happen.
“They are a great team and have a lot of quality. I actually thought we defended very well. We didn’t give them many chances. But we have our mentality and we are looking forward to the next leg.”
The dream of silverware is still alive for Newcastle, with the road to the FA Cup still open alongside the more difficult route to Budapest for a place in the final. Asked if Newcastle could lift a trophy this season, Gordon ended the interview by saying: “I hope so, I hope so.”
